Horse racing tracks for me. Been to mostly California racetracks like Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Del Mar, Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, and the various summer fairgrounds around the Bay Area.

Horse track. Sometimes I hate Finland (more than normally) and it's because of car racing. Freaking guys here expect that all people like to see, how car comes - car goes. I can watch that crap on TV, but never again at track. Boooriiing.

No comparison, I want to watch horses not horsepower in front of me. What's cemented in the public's memory, Secretariat romping down the Belmont stretch or some adverts ,splattered auto racing around in circles for the final time? The history, traditions and atmosphere at the elite thoroughbred tracks far supercedes that of the major auto courses in this punters opinion.

for many years was at santa anita, hollywood, del mar, pomona, los al every day on both the frontside and backside. when our horses had to drop in class sent them up north bay meadows golden gate etc and flew up to those tracks as well. even would sleep outside the horses stall the night before a big race. miss those days big time.

as for car race you couldn't pay me to go.

try for the Triple at Belmont. That was an awesome experience. First time in NYC.
Later watched live at Bossier City For SuperDerby.
I was just lucky to be in both places at that time. Not planned.

LEAD: Alysheba rallied in the stretch today to win the $1 million Super Derby at Louisiana Downs by a half-length.
Alysheba rallied in the stretch today to win the $1 million Super Derby at Louisiana Downs by a half-length.
Alysheba had not won in three races since victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness and had been a disappointing sixth in the Travers Stakes, in which he finished 20 1/4 lengths back of Java Gold.
He covered the mile and a quarter in 2:03 1/5 today under Chris McCarron. Candi's Gold, at 9-1, was second, and Parochial, a long shot, finished third.
Alysheba paid $3 for $2 to win. He won $600,000 today, putting his total earnings at almost $2.2 million.
Alysheba broke behind the leaders and was seventh at the quarter- and the half-mile markers. Third after a mile, he caught Candi's Gold in the final 50 yards.

I used to make opening day at DelMar with Legend Sam Angel for about three years in a row. Heaven.

Horse track. Walk up, get a front row seat for less than $10, easy to sneak your own liquor in and if you don't you can still get beer for a reasonable price and can get four beers five minutes before the last race goes off. Plus it's the only sport where the athletes pay the fans.
