Greg McElroy, John Parker Wilson, Matt Flynn, and Jamarcus Russell...
:think2:
It makes no difference what kind of offense Bama runs. They may look balanced on paper as far as yards rushing and passing, but they are most definitely a run first team. Out of their total TD's scored last season, 31 were by rushing and only 13 were by the pass. You compare that to the the two QB's who went in the first round of the NFL draft, Andrew Luck's Stanford team had 29 rushing TD's and 36 passing TD's. And the other Brandon Weedon's OSU team (spread offense) had 34 rushing TD's and 37 passing TD's. Now if you were a top rated highschool QB, which school would rather go to showcase your talents, the one where the QB's primary job is to hand it off to Ingram or Richardson and throw an occasional short pass, or the team where the game is going to be put on your shoulders to win it? I think it's a no brainer for any highschool QB with a big arm and any kind of an ego. This is no knock against Bama. I admire them more than any other team in the country. But Saban is a very good snake oil salesman to be a able to get a top 10 QB to come play for his team. Some players would rather have BCS titles than Hesiman Trophies. That's fine, but it doesn't go for the majority of the very talented highschool prospects out there. And the jury is still out for the Bama QB's who were fortunate enough to get drafted by the NFL. McElroy is sitting on the bench right now as a 3rd string QB. I can't really think of any other Bama QB's making a dent in the modern era. Namath and Stabler are the last two I can think of. And that was over 30 years ago.I would much rather be in a pro style offense than a spread type offense if I was preparing myself for the NFL! On top of that, Alabama does not run the ball 70% of the time, look at the statistics, they are as balanced a team as you will find in all of College Football! Alabama wins with ball control and playing sound stiff defense...a formula that has proven to work if you ask me...
Like I said.
Starting NFL QB. McElroy has never started a single NFL game.
John Parker Wilson. Are you kidding? Has he ever even taken a snap.
Jamarcus Russell the biggest bust in NFL history. And BTW Russel never played for Saben anyway. Les Miles was the coach when Russell was LSU's QB so he dont even count.
And Matt Flynn who still has only started one game in the NFL his whole career also played every down for Miles.
And BTW part 2. Flynn never played a down of football at LSU under Saben either. He played his entire playing career for les miles.
Just did a wiki search on John Parker Wilson because I barely remembered him.
He did not even get drafted in the NFL.
Went to training camp for the Atlanta Falcons. Played in 2 preseason games and never took a single snap in an NFL regular season game.
Give me a break dude.
Is this the best you can do?
Over 20 years of coaching college football for Saben and zilch for starting QB's in the NFL. And you want to call UA the quarterback factory of the NFL.
LOL.
No you said, "Saben has not had a single starting QB go to the NFL at Alabama, LSU or Mich St.". Meaning of Saban's starting quartebacks...
Exactly.
Thats my point.
So with this being true why according to you is Alabama a great place to go for future NFL starting QB's when I just proved to you that he has not coached a single QB in a college game that has started a single NFL regular season game?
To be fair, what quarterback has he had that is of top tier NFL talent???!!!!
One thing about Saban, is he is one of the best at evaluating talent and basing his plays around what they are capable of doing. This season you will see a much more open offense due to the abilities that McCarron has that he hasn't had the past few years, plus the loss of some top tier running backs.
Bottom line, if Saban has a top tier quarterback he is going to open up the offense to showcase what he can do!
