the next rule that should be changed is in the NBA.....when there's a jump ball, both players must be of equal height

Have a FG kicking contest. Each teams kicker gets 3 attempts from 45 yards out. Whichever team that makes more field goals wins the game. If tied at the end of 3, each kicker gets one more attempt each until the game is over. Basically like an NHL OT shootout.

how about having a fan for each team come out of the stands and see who can throw the most balls through a 2 foot hole carved into a 10 foot dr. pepper can from 15 yards out in 60 seconds?

there could be a weekly lottery to select the particpants if needed@)

the states would make out big time, considering how rare overtime games are.....but then we'd be worried about a different kind of fix

Small change for NFL. Team must score a TD. No FG's allowed in O.T.

I don't like the sudden death, only the NFL plays this way. Use the college rule or play a timed extra period like they do in all other sports.

But nothing is worse than the BCS, where votes decide and thus reputation and greed and anger and bias are all poured into some toxic potion.

First team to score 6 points wins. If you give up a td you deserve to lose. If you hold them to a fg your offense has a chance to score a td.

The NFL passed a form of modified sudden death overtime today at the league meetings in Orlando.

Owners passed the vote by a count of 28-4. The changes will apply only to the postseason for the 2010 season.

The modified sudden death rule means both teams get opportunities for possessions in overtime (fumbling away a kickoff would count as an opportunity) -- if the team that had the ball first doesn't score a touchdown.

Falcons president Rich McKay noted there will be two sets of rules for the regular season and the playoffs.

"Part of the reason we have different rules is because we have different consequences," he said.

But McKay said "there was certainly sentiment in the room to discuss having this rule in the regular season."

More study is needed before such a change is made, but McKay said owners may consider making the change for the regular season as early as May.

Several owners and coaches had expressed skepticism about changing the overtime rule. But commissioner Roger Goodell endorsed a change in the overtime rule on Monday. Goodell said it was "very much worth consideration"

More to come
