Quite often, I am reminded of being in High School when traveling abroad to visit with some of these bookmakers...
In Costa Rica for example, there used to be a "Regulars" dinner night out so long as you were one of the "Regulars" (part of a glorified private bookie club)...
If my Oldsheimer's Disease will allow me to recall, I believe the boys from CRIS, DELMAR, RIO/SKYBOOK, CASCADE, HOLLYWOOD & LITTLE NASA would have a blast together until they discussed whose lines were the sharpest of them all. One might believe that only a purist would put the importance of his lines over the cash flow, but you had to be amongst them to understand why they acted this way...
In short, bookmakers discussing their "lines" is akin to discussing the size of their tallywackers...
These guys were fun to hang out with even though they just LOVED giving YOURS TRULY a hard time.
Gee, I just can't imagine why?
In Curacao, the same thing happened except the names of the actors were changed to protect the GUILTY...
Just like Frank Sinatra hung with his Friends, these guys are not much different except they may WHINE more rather than sing, especially after having a "meaningless 3" drop as the NBA game winds down to its dramatic conclusion...Sometimes, this "meaningless 3" is a misnomer because I have seen it cost bookmakers over a million dollars...
Whoever coined that phrase should be shot like JR, because I have also seen what this meaningless 3 can do to MY bankroll, much less their's...
In Antigua, one is simply HONORED to be invited to a HOME COOKED dinner with SOS's head honcho, who probably has more Friends because of this than he can handle.
My friend and former colleague here at TheRx, Sting and I were flattered to be invited not once but TWICE as guests. I highly doubt we will ever get invited back after sucking down much of his 500 dollar bottle of Scotch simply for the sake of saying we did it...
However, despite witnessing & PARTICIPATING IN all of these clicks, I am very pleased to report that offshore gambling has never been better and I feel honored and privileged to be a small part of it...
