Nah, Mike, your argument doesn't hold water.

When you run someone over, even if it is their fault, you stop. Anybody with a conscience will feel guilty, even if it wasn't their fault and they did everything right. Fact is, your behind the wheel of a one ton+ bullet.

I remember when I was a little kid. My dad ran another little kid over. It was completely the little kid's fault. My dad did everything he could to not hit the kid; he slammed on his breaks, tried to swerve, he was driving the speed limit, no alcohol, etc. But there was nothing that could be done... the kid just jumped in front of the car. I was in the car with him; I remember the terrible feeling and the look of absolute horror in my dad's face. The kid's parents were their, and showed they were quality people even though they were poor as hell (they lent us their bathroom; didn't even have soap); acknowledging the mistake of their child.

In any case, my father rushed the kid to the hospital, paid the bills, and gave the family some money and toys for the kids.

Even if it ain't your fault; you are the one behind the wheel of a machine that can easily kill and maim.

And yeah, lawyers may recommend hit and run, just like they recommend shoot to kill an intruder. But this is a technisism, not the morally correct thing to do. With the intruder, he is invading your property. Their is malice on his part, so you must do the best for you.

But when you run someone over, it isn't so much about the technical aspect of what is your best bet, but who you are as a person. It is a real scumbag move to hit and run in a civilized society, no other way to cut it.

The only thing that bothers me is the way the judicial system works. A person with no money goes to jail. A person with money pays the family a nice lump sum and gets probation...can anyone say Donte Stallworth...anyways, I am terrified when I am driving down the La Pista seeing people run through traffic like it is a frogger game.

I have asked several of my friends if they were in the car with me and I did that, if they would turn me in. They all said they would which made me proud to know I hung out with guys that knew right from wrong. And I also count my blessings that I have not hurt anyone in the past as I have made some very poor choices...

Mistakes happen...owning up to them is the part that sets you from the rest imo...

There was this girl I went out with a few times. She's the shallow type, but hot, just like I like them. One Friday night, she told me she was staying home with her sisters. So I went out with my buddies and they all wanted to go to Prive. When we walked in, I saw the girl we'll call Sharon, dancing with a gringo in one of the vip sections. I didn't know the guy at the time, but I figured it wasn't his fault. I stayed upset about it for about an hour. Then I hit the Rey and forgot about it...

She moved in with him the next week. I'd see them around, and at one point, she introduced me as her "friend" to Gerry. I've learned not to be jealous about such things here, so I shrugged it off...

What Happened Wednesday Night:

They were driving home from the Fiesta Casino, I'd put the drunk over/under at 95%. He hit the guy and hauled ass. Went to the Ramada and rented a room. Some time passed that I can't account for, then he bought a Delta flight. I'm guessing that it was after 4am when he bought it online, as the Delta flight is almost 2 hours after the the earlier flights into the states, and he was most likely blocked by the 2 hour rule for online flight purchases.

At some point, he left for the airport, and she then called the police. He managed to make it onto the flight before they figured it out, but not quite into the states. You guys know the rest...

I'm guessing she weighed her options, knew that once he made it to Canada, he wouldn't be coming back. And she probably figured out that eventually, they'd put her in the car at the time of the accident and come after her, as she's a Tica, and can't flee.

The OIJ would not have found the car that fast, nor would they be able to look up who rented it until the office opened in the morning. Had she not called the police, Mr. Wallington would now be in Canada. Not sure how Canada would have handled it, but I'm guessing sooner or later there would be a hearing where Costa Rica would be expected to make it's case for extradition of a Canadian citizen from Canada.

I was one of the people initially impressed with the speed in which they resolved things. Until I looked into the back end of it.

I am not making a case for the morality of it. You guys need to stop fussing over that. I don't really think anyone here is justifying what happened. Somewhere there are some people who are very sad over all this. Especially because the guy hit was most likely the bread winner.

But I doubt he'll walk from this after the amount of attention it received.

Gerry... Looks like you got the girl... But I wouldn't exactly say you won...

BTW, Mike... no way Canada would have extradited him. First of all theres no formal extradition treaty between Canada and Costa Rica, and secondly, although there are diplomatic relations between the two countries, the actual crime committed in Costa Rica is not a serious criminal offense in Canada. It would be considered very minor, like what they would call a 'misdemeanor' in the US. I did a quick Google search on Canadian extradition policies, and the crime committed would have to result in at least 2 years in prison upon conviction in Canada for extradition to be even considered. So yes, it looks like he would have been 'home free' had he made it (this is just my interpretation of the law based on 2 minutes of research, I could be totally wrong, but I doubt it).

OMG so that was the girl in the car? Sharon haha What a small world or country I would say... Well, unfortunately some of my compatriotas keep trying to find happiness based in money and more money lol.

I can assure you that a real girlfriend wouldn't turned him in... although a real man wouldn't have run away.

I think the pics should be removed. I mean she is not a bad girl, she just has a weakness for money and Dumb gringos that can provide it. Besides there are more people in the pictures that shouldn't be posted here.
