Which is better and is it best to drink before or after a workout?

Been away from the gym for a few years and it's time to get back and get physically healthy again. Never really been a protein drinker but thinking of starting some type of regime to go along with the weight lifting. Anyone who knows about these protein shakes and how to go about it please reply.

you can do both but the shake after your workout is a key part of recovery and more essential. The shake allows protein/nutrients to get to your body faster after you workout when it is in need of them.

I really wish they did scientific studies on this. I don't buy any of it. The only ones hyping up protein are protein companies. And the idea that you need a shake right after you workout or they deteriorate is pretty ridiculous. The human body is stronger than we give it credit.

There have been hundreds of studies.
Protein is needed to maintain muscle.
Nutrient is is false and broscience but protein itself is proven.

yeah but isn't it needed immediately after workout and shakes get to your body faster than food?

I'm a believer in protein shakes to help to lose weight. I've not done it but know a few people who have and lost tons of weight. I don't think I could handle going without carbs.

My point was that if muscles deteriorated so quickly like bodybuilders say then we would all have muscular dystrophy.

I drink the Isolyze whey protein. It contains no sugar, no fat. I drink it 3 times a day. It's best to drink it after your workout. There's a energizing pre-workout drink I have before workout. It's called Noxipro. It's pineapple strawberry flavor and good. It really does give you energy during your workout. I'm 5'10 165 lbs at 40 years old. It sounds cliche, but it's true if you eat right and exercise regular you can be healthy and be at a healthy weight.

I agree 100%
The Minnesota study on starvation proves that the losing muscle thing is highly exaggerated.

Protein helps build muscle more then it helps prevent muscle loss.

Only way to lose real significant muscle is if you go on a massive calorie deficit so large that your deficit out runs your bodies ability oxidate fat tissue and use it for energy.

Your body is only capable of using about 38 calories per pound of body fat for energy per day.

When your deficit gets higher then that your body is then forced to get energy in other places and muscle and lean body mass is that next place it goes for energy.

Thats why its important to have a moderate calorie deficit and not a large one and do it slow over time.

Losing 30 pounds in a month is not wise.
Slow and steady is the way to go.

You see, this is just the thing I'm not sure about. Isn't it just enough to just drink a good protein shake after a workout and still see results? Do I really need to take in other protein concoctions before bed, morning and all that? What can I do that's simple right after a workout as far as protein goes? I'll just be more aware and eat more healthy, take a daily multi-vitamin, do some running and lift weights, but I want to see if taking a protein supplement will actually help.

best taste or best for muscle building? how many servings you get off that thing?

There is no such thing as a magic protein where one works better then the other as long as its a complete protein and the grams per serving is not spiked with some half chained protein BCAA just so they can say on the label it has a high protein content.

The PES protein I listed is 24 complete grams of protein.

It is suggested to take at least .7 grams of protein per day per pound of body weight.

Some people go over board and go 1 gram per pound or even 1.2 grams per pound.
But there have never been any studies that have proved that much to have any greater effect then the .7 per pound.
