Not that it's all Derrek Lee by any stretch, but his loss did change things quite a bit. In the 14 games Lee started the Cubs avg. 5.43 runs/game. In the 18 games since the avg is 2.44. I mean, if you take away Pujols from STL...?
if you take pujols out of that lineup, the cards would suffer but...they would not lose 13-0 at home to milwaukee. they would not go 2-10 or whatever the cubs record is since lee went out.

It's because Cubs fans are insufferable. They fill that crummy old stadium, say what a shrine it is, then expect everyone to pat them on the back and say what great fans they are. They've had shitty teams for years, yet just file into that mausoleum like the Living Dead: "We Love Our Cubbies....Cubbies...Cubbies" If they ever got wise and started staying away, maybe the bean counters would actually try to put a cohesive team together with all the money they spend on has beens and never weres.

Just for the record, I would say half of the people who go are not even baseball fans. The scalpers buy many, many tickets (starting with the Tribune-owned ticket brokerage). Many people buy from the brokers as it is the one and only chance they will get in for the season. It is the chic thing to do - party all day in Wrigleyville and go catch some rays at the Cub game, then party after the game in the neighborhood and be seen.
Almost started this thread myself a few days ago. I remember somebody said that he would not be surprised if the Cubs had the best O in the N.L, because Ramirez would drive Pierre in so many times. I think he also thought Jacque Jones was good, even though he's been above average maybe 1 or 2 times in his career. Props for pointing this out.
