Where would you rank Tyson?

I saw Beyond the Glory last night on Fox where they profiled Tyson. This guy was just incredible and I just kept thinking to myself if he didn't spend time in jail he would be the greatest heavy weight in history.

The way he dismantled opponents, I have never seen anyone else that did it with such ferocity and ease. I still think he is in the top 3 all time.

A truly pathetic thug who does not rank in the top 100. Tyson was not even the best heavyweight in his era. Holyfield destroyed him twice, and Lewis just pummelled him. What is really sad is that Tyson refused to fight George Foreman who was 15 years past his prime and just recently turned down a fight against blown up middleweight Roy Jones. Did you know Tyson when he was in his prime paid Lewis 4 million dollars to step aside so he could fight other opponents?

Before his first arrest? Top 5. When he was 21, 22 he was unreal. Quick, hard to hit and tried to decapitate his opponents. Boxers were scared of him when they went in the ring in those early years of career.

He's not in the top anything - the guy had unbelievable power and the toughness of a flea - once fighters realized he is not god and if they could just fight off the first few rounds of lightning power punches he could not win a real fight - in boxing, to be a top fighter you have to be able to take some punches - Tyson could never take a punch - he also fought alot of nobodies - in terms of offense he was about as good as they ever was.

Personally I think if you believe Tyson in his prime could have taken guys like Ali/Foreman/Louis/Holmes in their primes you are way off.

Obviously #1 in his prime......No way guys in earlier eras could compete with him in his time period.This falls into that arguement of whether guys back then in other sports could compete with todays......I still say no way!

in his prime (pre-arrest) tyson was a world beater........hands down


but unfortunately his antics outside and inside the ring in later years has led him to be looked on as a complete idiot.....really kind of sad IMO.........

My god George Foreman in his prime would of decapitated Tyson. Smokin Joe Frazier would of made Tyson quit. Ali would not even of broken a sweat against this bully. Tyson did look good against Mitch "Blood" Green and "Pinklon" Thomas. He did win the title against the great Trevor Berbick.LMAO!

Assuming all in their primes I think,

Ali would have toyed with him then destroyed him. I honestly believe Tyson would have presented less of a challenge than Foreman to Ali.

Foreman would have slugged it out and beat him.

Sonny Liston probably the same as Foreman.

Not sure I can rank any athlete among the elite when he never came close to reaching his potential. This will probably be the ONLY time I agree with Railbird & Chuck Sims in the same thread. To consider Tyson one of the best is crazy. No fighter has been given more chances or opportunities to prove himself and fail then Mike. Besides beating up on a weak heavyweight division in his early years he was a failure

Whats even sadder is NO fighter has done more to destroy and make a joke out of the sport then this clown
