Zappe should be starting, now
Pats? Naw. We need a winner here. That he is not.

Some of the teams listed above (most) would be happy with an upgrade. Not New England. If Mac Jones doesn't pull it together over the next two games (very unlikely) you will likely see Zappe get his shot next season.
Next 3 yrs:
  • Carr
  • Jones
  • Zappe
I would take Carr if I was New England.

Big fat 5 yr deal, nope

But I think some team will give Carr a nice fat 5 yr deal.

(Lamar Jackson will likely be available, he will not get a monster deal from Balty, Jackson has clearly lost a step and is getting dinged all the time, Balty clearly is wise to not put him in the $46M yr for 6 yr club)

Ravens sign Lamar to a huge contract , AFC will have 3 teams with an albatross around their necks... Lamar , Wilson , and Watson

Shocked if he gets a big 5yr deal.

I can see the Jets giving him a 3 yr contract. He can’t carry a team, but with a good defense and asked to simply not blow it he can be useful.

Titans

PS: As my Patriots brother already said, he's not going to the Patriots. Worse case for them, they have a QB competition between the two young QBs already on their roster

A few thoughts

1. Raiders by far poorest owner in NFL. Benching Carr, solely to allow them to cut him. If "injured", however trivially, they'd have to pay him.
2. Carr is, and has been, way too erratic. Good throws mixed with head scratchers.
3. Have to ask, which team will be able to justify him, as worth 40 mil over their current qb?
4. If Brady does not go to Mia, Carr might. Its not fair, but Tua is too frail, for the NFL. Everyone remember the Jr Seau tragedy. If Purdy flames out, can't hack play-off upgrade in intensity, then Brady to S.F., his hometown, etc. Mia then can opt for Jimmy G or Carr. Allow Tua an extended period to get his brain right.

Happy new year, health and prosperity to all.

Carr on my Jets could be a good fit.
I am surprised you would want Derek Carr on the Jets. He has thrown the most interceptions this year with 14. In the last two years he has thrown 28 interceptions. Carr has plenty of talent around him with Davante Adams, Darren Waller, and Josh Jacobs and the Raiders are good for the garbage. Derek Carr is going to be 32 years old next year. Derek Carr is in decline. I would think Jets fans would be happy with Mike White. You are going to pay Derek Carr $40 million when you have a QB in Mike White who has been more productive than Derek Carr who has thrown 28 interceptions in the past two years?

White has to answer valid questions in the final two weeks whether he can be a long term answer as a starter. Carr could flourish with this Jets team. And in today's NFL since when is 32 years old for a QB?

The more I think about it some team will definitely give him a 5yr deal so many need a QB—-the list is long.
Look at how many teams panicked and gave Murray Wilson Watson and others ridiculous contracts.
No they won’t give Carr that kind of money ($46M) but he’ll get a nice deal.
Lamar Jackson will be available as I stated earlier—-big mistake to take him.

As a lifelong Bear fan I am so happy to say we don’t need him or any other free agent. Fields is our guy

He’ll retire. He doesn’t want to go to any other team

He's a big roller so he actually could retire which would save some unsuspecting team a lot of money since he is an average QB at best.

My understanding as of right now is the Raiders have not granted Carr’s camp the ability to seek a trade. And even though there are the aforementioned teams out there with needs, dealing him before the Feb. 15 deadline—when his $32.9 million base for next year and $7.5 million of his 2024 money vests as fully guaranteed—won’t be easy. And he absolutely won’t be on the Raiders’ roster past that date, so there is the idea that teams that are interested in him should just wait for Las Vegas to cut him.

From there, there are a few questions.

Why wouldn’t a team just wait for the Raiders to cut Carr? Obviously, you’d do it for the certainty of having your guy, and being able to start planning for 2023. The question, then, would be if someone would be willing to pay Carr $32.9 million next year, and effectively lock itself into him for ’24, or have to pay another $7.5 million before then to get out of it.

Would Carr take a contract adjustment to facilitate a trade? The one reason why he might want to do it is the optics of getting traded are better than the optics of getting cut. And he’d be able to leave a team he spent nine years with on good terms.

Why would Carr want to help the Raiders now? I actually have heard things aren’t on terrible terms between the team and quarterback, and that Carr’s handled all this professionally. So this isn’t one of those, at least I don’t think it is, where a player simply isn’t going to help the team out that he’s leaving.

What else could gum up the works? With Rodgers’s name floated out there, and a ton of veteran quarterbacks (Garoppolo, Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield, Daniel Jones) potentially available at a cheaper rate, and not requiring draft picks for acquisition, teams might be content to wait until March to address the position.

Regardless, Carr has the advantage of knowing—whether he’s cut or traded—that he’ll be able to find a new home a month ahead of the market, and he has a no-trade clause to control his destination. So will the Raiders be able to swing a return for him? Or is he going to be the rare February free agent?

Stay tuned.

Only a moron would sign that guy to a huge extension. His best years are behind him. He would make an average back up if he had a brain
