Where to live?

I am coming down to CR in the fall with an eye on moving permanently. Would love to know what you guys think about places to live. I'm single and on a pretty modest budget with an eighty pound dog. I like a little nightlife and poker/gambling but want to be able to go fishing in the ocean pretty regularly. Been looking at San Ramon area, thinking that being on the autopista gives me decent access to the coast and San Jose/airport, but still being out of the way a bit. Any thoughts? Would be happy to give more details if it makes a difference.

Will be working via the internet with an interest in starting (slowly) a tourist related biz.

I have considered San Ramon, Grecia, Belen, Sarchi, Naranjo and others. I'm sure I can't decide until I actually get there and get a feel for different places. Just hoping for a gem of a place that locals may know of that I didn't even consider or like the response above "this town is nice. I live here.'

That map of your is outdated...no way San Jose and surrounding areas get less than what it shows....

Thanks for that. I'm from Houston so can deal with the rain and the humidity just fine. Funny tho Houston at 55" per yr would be considered dry like Guanacaste according to the map from Zit.

Any towns you think I should look at? I forgot to mention Atenas is is on my radar as well

total rainfall on an average year would be about 1.8 meters (which is roughly 72 inches) so the map is not far off

the thing is that we have huge changes between areas (microclimates) in the San Jose area alone. Santa Ana and Moravia (not the Moravia shown in the map, I am talking about the one in San Jose) have very different weather patterns and they are merely 5 miles away

Tilaran, nice weather, clean little town, five minutes from the lake and and a short drive to some really nice Northern Pacific beaches. I plan on dying there one day.

You are probably right, but it feels like 3.6 meters and 144 inches...especially in the afternoon....:lol:
