Anyone find them in the stores already? Not sure I want to make a trip over to the local B&N and find out they only have Lindy or Athlons

Yeah I know, but the last time ordering online they screwed it up and did not get it until August. Besides, I like to lurk around the magazine racks and look suspicious.

Well what do you know, made the short walk over to B&N and picked up the very last copy of the Steele CFB Preview, Pac-12 edition (Freeman, Jack, Hogan, Booker). Now I got to round up all this returning starter data, put together some power ratings and I will be ready to roll. The problem is that there are so many fish still to catch this summer and not so much time.

Bunch of BS, Steele and HIS organization stating all the BS about order by phone or online and get it earlier than at stores
So I order it, pay shipping and guess what it is in my local Hasting before I received it at home
Never fall for that BS again

I wish Steele would cut the size of the magazine and INCREASE the print size. Hell,
unless you have 20/20, you can't read the damn thing. Still, pretty good rag though!

Steele's rag is doing so poorly in Southern California that many distributors have simply stopped carrying them. Way too much B.S. in them. No one gives a crap about what he said 5 years ago or how he rates recruits. Lindy's, Athlon, and the Sporting News are the only three rags widely available in many Southern California areas.

Steele is the best for detailing the number of returning starters, keeping track of injuries, and depth charts. He has a few other things in there as well, such as a unique HFA for each team along with power ratings. I also like to get a copy of Marc Lawrence's Playbook Mag just to carry around. Not as much detail but you get bigger print with one page per team in alphabetical order so you can just quickly thumb to a team and look at their schedule. Plus his sytems and "awesome angles" are fun to play with.

I use Steele to cross check my historical data and my own notes. He adds value in discussing depth charts, such as OL and DL, plus the leading returning tacklers section is well laid out. The Playbook magazine is indeed very fun to play with. Numerous stupid systems based on a sample size of 10, which is awful, but I usually find 5-10 new things that are worth pursuing (out of the hundreds) and the lay out is good like you said.

Meanwhile, tough to find Steele's magazine in Los Angeles as noted above. I don't need it yet, but will start the cross check in about a week, so it would be nice if there was a sighting.

thinking of doing a phil steele "buy magazine" road trip... i live in vancouver, canada. 1 hour for me to bellingham just across the border. that assumes small wait time at border (i can probably go at time where almost always little wait).

anyway, buying phil's magazine would be my #1 goal.... will i be able to find it? sell out fast? restock it?

thanks in advance......... i have other things i can buy but phil steele would basically be reason for the trip.

This is really ridiculous, I haven't got mine yet either. Steele needs to get his shit together with his distribution. He's a month late in getting them on the news stands and bookstores. At least here in Oklahoma.

I looked for Steeles in Books-a million; was convinced they did not have it yet; then looked down and saw 20 copies at bottom of magazines presentations; about 2 weeks ago; no excuse for him not delivering yet; maybe he has a deal to allow B and M sellers to release before he sends them out...as usual almost too many facts; and he likes to talk himself up...

phil, if you are reading this.... i wish you would grab alot of the highest value-added current season content, put it in its own packaging and increase the font size by a huge factor.

basically his synopsis summary writeup on each team but much much bigger.

i don't mind per se that he goes 6 seasons back talking about a team's LB situation... but the problem is it forces the print to be SO SMALL on the current season stuff.

anyway, perfect opportunity to repackage content he's already produced and sell it at a premium price.

Why do you think Steele had to make a deal with ESPN? Why do you think that Steele's rag is so difficult to find in a store? It is because Steele if f**king broke and has to make every penny he can selling his crap picks. It cost him about $2.50 to mail eqch rag. How much does he charge for "S & H"? Eventually he will stop the publication and force you to buy it on line. That way he saves more money and may stay afloat a little longer. Steele should stick to the rag business and give up trying to find winners. He is terrible at that.

What are you, Steele's accountant? You don't know if he is broke or not, your just guessing at it. I do think it probably has something to do with being associated with ESPN and most likely getting as many online sales as they can first before going to the wider distribution of his magazine...

You really do not want to know why I know so much about Steele. Now to show you how stupid your last statement is, why would Steele intentionally cut down on his distribution if not to force people to order them by mail so he can make an extra 2-3 dollars per rag in "Shipping and Handling" Charges? Who would he want to intentionally cut down on his distribution just to try and widen his distribution once people buy his rag online? Do you think that people will buy both? The truth (something you consistantly refuse to believe) is simple. His sales are sinking because he has way too much bull s**t and unimportant junk in his rag. People do not like having to read about what he said 5 years ago about some team. They want today's information, not what this dumb s**t said would happen 5 years ago.

The more you believe that you actually know more about football than I do, the worse life will be for you. Get this through your head Okie. Comparing you to me as far as football goes is like comparing a Big Mac to a fine New York Steak. It is not close. But then look who I am talking to. A dumb hick Okie. My bad.
