I can understand why he would want to move out of DC. I've been there and the place IS a hole. Though I have been back last year and it did seem to be a lot better than before. I think the city is really giving an effort to cleaning up.
I don't think wanting to move away from a hole for whatever reason (or even if others disagree with you about it being a hole) makes a person the next up for racist of the year awards.
My wife and I are considering moving our family as our area has been HUGELY deluged with hispanics (most illegal.) We don't care for the direction the community is headed because of this (it ain't improving economically with the influx.) I am not racist. But I am not hispanic, either. tulsa
Yea. He said it about Mo County in Maryland. That’s where I have lived my entire life. He was talking about and area 10-15 minutes from my house called Gaithersburg.

May I ask you an honest question? How is your neighborhood? Would I want to live there as a white, middle-class married man with two children? Is your area a great place to re-locate my family? We may be moving...what about your community can you recommend to me? Other than the fact that you are a good fellow and we would get along well, I believe. Would the public schools be great for my children? My wife and I would like great public schools and those are a priority for where we move. Would we fit in well with the area culture, do you believe? Is the crime rate low? Is housing reasonable? tulsa

I moved out of a area in Montgomery County called Silver Spring 5 years ago. I still live in Montgomery County in Potomac MD.
This is on of the richest areas on the east coast.
People like Juan Howard, John Thompson, Alonso Morning, Pat Ewing, M Tyson, Sugar Ray have houses in Potomac.
If you can live in this part of Mo County you can have your kids go to Church Hill or Wooten which are top 2 public schools in MD. I would believe any middle class person would dream of living here.
