They could probably lose the rest of their games and still make the playoffs. I think they only have 11 losses. It's hard to rank NHL teams though because of the the changes in rules about ties.

I hope that question was a joke. If not, you know as much about hockey as I know about college basketball.

They don't rank....anywhere.

I dont know anything about hockey history, I mean nothing...

I didn't know it was that riduclous of a question though..

94 points already, 14 more points than the next closest in either conference

To put that in persepective, if you take 14 points away from the 2nd team in the East, they would be tied for 4th to last.... take away 14 from the Capitals and they still are tied for the best record in hockey

They couldn't warm the Gilles islander teams or the Montreal teams that featured lafleur , the roadrunner & Bellevue , or Richard , messier& Gretzky oiler teams would slaughter them. Even Bobby Orr and the big bad Bruins or the broad street bully teams are better

In the ten years since the lock out only two teams (redwings07-08/blackhawks12-13) have won the President Trophy and the Cup.

This is not the same Capitals team that hasn't gotten anywhere in the past. Their last coach was probably the softest coach in the NHL. They've got it it all, coaching, goaltending, scoring, character. 61 goal differential is huge. This one of the most dominate teams in a long team. Other president trophy winners haven't been this far ahead. Teams of the past would not even be able to compete in today's game. They would get killed. Guys are just bigger and faster now, and hit harder.

I think you need to temper this with the fact that the NHL realigned the conferences and awarded an extra point in overtime wins.

So they will go out in the second round instead of the first.

i knew i liked you

i hate when people say teams of generations ago are far superior to teams of today.. head 2 head, most teams today win because we have superior athletes, training, coaching, ect.. sports like civilization advance rapidly..

you can compare domination of the era... I see Washington dominating unlike anything i've seen in my extremely brief following of hockey

hate it all you want but the salary caps make it so....

do you really think the Oilers could afford Gretzky, Coffey, Kurri, Anderson, Messier, and Fuhr for $70M let alone have another 20 players under contract? Same for 80's Isles, 70's Canadiens, and the early 90's Pens. Any of those teams would wipe the floor with 2016 Caps

This is the most dominate team of the salary cap era for sure. 95/96 Redwings? I think were the last team to have a season like this, and I believe they won the cup that year? Today's game is way more of a grind, no way Gretzky in his prime would score 100 goals in todays game.
