Where did Global Warming go?

CO2 is released by burning fossil fuels. CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by about 10% from June 1988 to June 2008. CO2 is supposedly a heat trapping greenhouse gas.

At least 4 methods, GISS, AUH MSU, RSS and the Hadley Centre track the world temperature. The Hadley Centre has not reported the June 2008 temperature. The other three all show a reduction in temperature from June 1988 to June 2008. GISS shows a reduction of 0.13 degree C, AUH MSU a reduction of 0.20, and RSS a reduction of 0.13.

If CO2 is really the main climate forcing, why is the temperature going down?

Why are both Obama and McCain committed to reducing CO2 to fight global warming, when there is no warming over the last 20 years?

to answer your question because they all, both sides of the aisle it would seem moreso are going to hit the free world with a carbon tax

its socialist garbage and everybody is being conditioned to believe its for the good of the planet (Mother Earth)

You will never see any truth on this matter on MS TV.

Same place the "global cooling" hysteria of the 70s ended up in: the dustbin of history.

the debate is not "global warming" - it's climate change

in my neck of the woods (no cal) - it's been evident for 3 years...(no rain, massive 30+ MPH wind)........BTW 111 today......101 right now and it's 9:30:ohno:

How does one test "climate change"??

What is the underlying theory??

hmmmm.........sounds likes Rush "poo-poos" the whole idea of anything out of the ordinary.

perhaps he is right. doubtful.

we used to have here one of the most prolific king salmon runs for YEARS...this was the spot.....not anymore. As of this year they're gone. I mean gone as in practically vanished....... no commercial or recreation fishing allowed. Used to catch 20-30 yr

Just blind chance I guess

Climate change maybe...althought hard to measure the earth temperature even with a Railbird perspective of 6k years.

However what isnt true is its relation to Co2

I have no clue, I really haven't looked into it. I just know what I see with my own eyes.

I don't think anybody really knows. Some claim to. We'll see if they're right in time

It's different everywhere.......many places are setting records for low temps. Like nhoj says snow in Col in June :think2:(and I lived there for years) - bottom line shit has changed.............we'll find out if it is just an anomoly in time or something else.

The Climate has changed?

Well paint me purple and call me Uncle Festus.

Imagine that...the climate changing?

Where I sit right now...just 10,000 years ago was covered in a gigantic sheet of ice. And that was before automobiles...except the Fred Flintstone foot scooters I guess.

People think its strange that the climate changes...:ohno:

You are trying to be difficult on this issue to bring other people in. Global warming actually refers to "global weather change" which means extremely odd weather patterns in spots that they hadn't seen like that in years.

Fires starting months early, floods coming with more frequency, cold currents coming into areas where warm currents have cruised through for years and years, one day its 30 in NE, the next day its 70, snow in central California on sea level - first time in years upon years, hurricane seasons continue to get worse..... how complex is that to understand?

This is all such nonsense. The weather and climate have always changed.

LOL...Global Warmers see a small climate cycle or weather pattern change and they think its something dire. It's hilarious. We don't even know what normal is yet...we've only been documenting the weather for 150 years...max...and most of the early data was with poor instuments and untrained people.

How the hell do you know what "normal" is yet? 150 years isn't even a blip on the climate scale. It's ridiculous to say things are changing...compared to what?

And for the record...the two hurricane seasons since Katrina have had fewer and milder hurricanes...despite the predictions of gloom and doom.

Your information isn't even correct.

How complex is that for you to understand?

Global what?

Seriously tho, if GW spin forces us to adopt renewable energy faster then that can't be a bad thing.

Reducing our oil junkie economies to a more sensible sustainable level will benefit us all bigtime.

The economies of the future will have +50% of thier energy requirements from renewables.

Global warming now means extreme cold in some places?? How about now that it is no longer warming you need to change the subject.

What causes all this strange weather( if it is really strange)?? A change of 35 parts per million of CO2?? How about evil spirits?? Witches?? Revenge of mother earth??

May be El Nino and La Nina dominate Southern Cal weather patterns.

eek wrote "Reducing our oil junkie economies to a more sensible sustainable level will benefit us all bigtime." There is no real alternative to fossil fuel at present, and it is very doubtful that we can maintain our standard of living with less energy use.

I'm with thejdog on the climate change issue.

It's not man made climate change, the earth's climate has been changing since the inception of the planet. There is no reason that climate change is ceasing.

If climate change is a concern, at it very well might be, barking up the wrong tree ain't solving any problems. We should research how we can adopt to climate change, or maybe even modify the change itself.

I expect science to make large inroads with respect to this issue over the next 20 to 2000 years.

You know based on sun spots it looks like a cycle of large cooling is facing us for the next decade or more. That should put the warming CO2 aspects of this to bed.

The just keep changing what they call it.

First it was dire global cooling in the 70's.

Then it changed to dire global warming....

Now that the global warming has stopped for the last decade...they now call it dire global climate change.

One size fits all...thats what makes this all such obvious manipulation for an agenda.

Look at eeks response...he nails it.

Seriously tho, if GW spin forces us to adopt renewable energy faster then that can't be a bad thing

Its not really about the climate...its about whatever the anti-capitalists can find to scare us back into the dark ages.
