Slaton to start? Beat writers say yes
</TD></TR><TR><TD>Following a long and cumbersome preseason for the Houston Texans, local beat writers have thrown their support behind rookie rusher Steve Slaton, voicing their belief that the former West Virginia offensive catalyst should earn the starting job if not now, then soon, according to the
Houston Chronicle.</TD></TR><TR><TD style="PADDING-TOP: 15px">
Our View: Both Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton are the backups to veterans Ahman Green (injured) and Chris Brown (also not at 100%, as usual). Both are going to improve. Slaton has exceeded expectations, according to the coaches. What the coaches like about Slaton, other than his speed and big-play ability, is the way he's improved as a blocker and isn't afraid to take on pass rushers. He was a power in college and the pedigree for greatness at the professional level is there. He lacks size, but Warrick Dunn was raised in this same offensive system, designed by Alex Gibbs, and the two carry similar traits. We will see what the Texans can do, but Slaton should be in your fantasy radar if he wasn't already.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
