When should "work from home" turn into "work at work"?

To answer your question shdw I think you have to stay in line with what the state does lest you look like an asshole. Might need to come up with ways to promote productivity even more than usual; bonuses for high performers or other positive reinforcement.

What if the state starts opening things up slowly? That is the plan. I should wait until we are 100% open and be the last ones to open up?

We were never required to work from home. We are essential.

For a BS job, I would agree. For a real job its unacceptable

I have a real job. Productivity is down across the board during something like this. Human nature. Shit still gets done but common sense is that productivity is down everywhere. At least until shit has settled down and people adapt. Which they are starting to imo

Really kinda depends on a lot of factors. What is the industry, how close/isolated are people when they are in the office, how much of the work simply cannot be done away from the office, what does the typical commute look like, etc.

What about phasing the office back in as things open back up? When the state goes to 50% do two groups, group A in the office Monday/Wednesday, group B Tuesday/Thursday, everyone from home Friday. Makes child care easier, and those who do come into the office have more distancing and half the exposure to others. Idk just a thought.

Your phase idea is what i have been considering. They have well over 6 feet in between. Some have their own offices.

It's a question of when to start implementing.

For example. This friday we are opening up 6 new types of businesses. Who knows how many "phases" we will have?

If you’re in a society where most jobs can be performed from home...we’re in trouble.

Bring back manufacturing. Try telling the people who produce product on an assembly line to work from home. Tell bartenders to work from home. Products we buy aren’t made from Amazon. Amazon gets product from manufacturers that we buy. And who manufactures?, Freakin’ China.

Many office jobs can be done from home but you can’t ask sports teams, stadium vendors, park attendance, grocery clerks, beach lifeguards, beer makers, car repairmen, road construction, crane operators, fast food employees, clothes manufacturers, oil tankers, Boeing, soft drink makers, casino employees, house builders...

..to all work at home. We must produce. Idle hands is the devil’s workshop.
