I agree Coaster. What has he been doing since April? If he expected he was coming back, he should've have been working out and in shape ready to go.

You guys are a bunch of beauties - there is being in shape and then there is game shape.....

Further there needs to be an orientation process for sundin into the canucks system - He needs to learn the Power Play process and his linemates tendencies etc.....

Whats the point of rushing the guy and have him pull a groin muscle and be on the shelf for a couple of weeks with Luongo that serves us no good the team can hang on for another couple of games we only play 3 games in the next 10 days

Skate his first practise with Nucks is today you can watch a live streaming video of it. Good job by the NHL and Nucks to do this sort of stuff.

I totally agree that game shape it very different from just simply being in shape. I also agree that there is no rush to get him in there not in game shape which could result in an injury.

haha, I thought people were joking here when they were cutting down Mats for not immediately playing after stepping off the plane from Sweden but I think their serious. This is not your local men's beer league where you just show up and play after being off all summer. Its pretty common for guys joining their team halfway through the season to spend a week practicing before they play a competitive game.

It will be very interesting to see how he fits in in this situation joining the team halfway thru, without any practice with the team like this. At first I thought it would be a great situation for the Canucks and it still may be. Time will tell.

I've played high end hockey all my life and having a superstar like mats sundin in the lineup will only benefit the team, even if he isn't quite in "game shape". I assume there going to be putting him on the 3rd maybe 2nd line before throwing him on the 1st line down the road.. Sundin is such a smart player that he will be an amazing 3rd line center even if he isnt in game shape. I assume they will throw him on the PP also which should really help things.

The Primma Donna plays tonight.
powers we are in disagreement here.

orientation process ??
When there is a trade, no such process at all, they just jump in.

game shape??
He knew long ago he was going to play. Being in game shape? Ask the Canucks if he could skate with a Swedish Junior team maybe.

Taking dough for free and shortening his season even more.
He will help because he is still good, i just hate the way he enters the team.
Pro athletes think they are Gawds, cause the fans and management treat them that way.

Coaster - either way you will be right, so there is no point in debating.

If he comes in and plays well - then the arguement is what was the delay all about...

If he comes in and doesn't have much impact for a while - then he is stealing.

You are also right - he will make the team better just by addition.

Pervious posts were correct:

Sundin plays with Wellwood and Raymond as indicated earlier and will get 2 team power play time.

Lets go nucks O85.5 points is looking good!

.... Sundin is such a smart player that......

alot of good points in this thread but this is the one that sticks out most for me...

his size, smarts and efficiency in his movements will make up for any lack of 'game shape' he may suffer from in the early going.

As a leaf fan who's watched this guy play for most of his career, all I have to say is.....

ITS DINNER NIGHT IN CANADA

Sundin is gonna light the lamp tonight!

...k maybe not, but he's a solid player and the type of guy that brings up his linemates' play just by being on the ice. Even though I'm a die-hard leaf fan, I'm still excited to see him hit the ice, I think it's gonna be a good game to watch.
