Let's say you divide your life into thirds ( like a hockey game). You live to 93 ( pretty optimistic !) Divide your life into 3 segments...youth, middle age, and senior.

your youth is birth- 31 years old

middle age is 32-63 yo

senior is 63 thru end !

Pretty depressing ! Actually many athletes start to lose effectiveness at about 32 yo, esp certain sports ( Tennis, for example )

If you are 45, and deny being middle-aged, I say double your age, and make a line on you living to that age. Do you take over, or under ? If under, then you are clearly middle-aged !

I say middle-aged is 32 +, and that's generous !

My depressing thought of the day !

I thought of Scooter, also, but Cooter popped out. Nobody could name last cat, so Animal, was the name.

I'd like to know how wife named her kids ! Surprised she didn't pull a George Forman !

Truely: Interesting , but does middle age begin at 50 ? I'll say by the time you're 50, you're in the middle of middle-age ?

It can't begin at 50, or many would live to 100 +. Do you expect to (honestly ) live to a 100 +, I don't !

I'll say at 40, you are middle-age, and argue for 35, or lower. You're a senior at 65, right, so middle age should be a range, 40-60, 35-55, whatever. You don't wake up one morning and suddenly you're middle-aged !

I say it's the middle years of your time on Earth, which I can make a case for starting at 35, or earlier !

When I was 32, I had a bad stretch of weeks where I was depressed, not doing anything fun for myself (just working, watching my kids, etc.), and really short-tempered with my wife.

Finally realized that I was having what could be called a mid-life crisis. Job sucked, felt like my youth had slipped away, felt and looked old, constantly looking at younger women wondering if they found me the least bit attractive.

Luckily, it all passed after I got out and started doing activities I enjoy and hanging out with my friends. Could be that I was just in a "rut" and not a mid-life crisis, but I would call it a mid-life crisis because I was having all the thoughts that one associates with mlc.

I think middle age has more to do with where you are with your life, goals, happiness, disillusionment, coming to terms with your life situation. Makes a little more sense than saying one hits a certain magic number of years and is instantly in middle age.

The cliche states "Life begins at forty."
They might be right. I am at peace with the world.

no i'm not saying at the age 50, but more like you are at peace with yourself, and life.

i thinkn the age thing saying its 50 now because more people are hitting there goals at that time.

the middle ages are doing things you finally want to do, and enjoying them.

whether it is being able to afford them or having the time.

some above said it perfectly.

that is what i would consider middle ages.

ACTUALLY, the fifty year olds are my parents, and they just seem more at peace with everything. taking things in stride.
