When the cost to maintain per month exceeds a car payment is what I've always been told.

I drive stuff till its scrap and luckily haven't had a car that required pouring tons of cash into it.

I just traded one in because it had been in the shop about three times in four months. It was pretty high on Miles so I felt it was a good time to get rid of it.

Definitely could've got a few grand more selling it privately BUT I really don't like the idea of meeting strangers for test drives at random times. Maybe that's just me.

So you pass up a "few" grand for being a scaredy cat? Wow. Maybe your mom could have went with you and you could have spent that few grand on balls or testosterone.

Oh. Didn't realize you were one of "those" posters. You can find someone else to argue with if you're that bored. Doesn't have a thing in the world to do with being scared. Time is valuable. You can continue trolling now Loomis.

What I try to do is get a new car every 5 years.....and have my wife do the same....but stagger them so we do the shuffle every 2-3 years.

Hasn't been working out like I hoped....my car is a 2011 and I'm only now trying to sell my wife's car. Gonna have to keep mine an extra year at least

Ordered it before the end of the year or would have had to pay a shit load of tax for the year

That isn't going to help you in 2014, it will be a 2015 deduction. Doesn't matter when you order it. The date placed in service is when you can take the deduction.
