I don't know why people don't like their music. I happen to like it. I've heard some of the criticisms like they don't like the voice of the lead singer, all the songs sound the same, etc., but most of the criticisms are along the lines of opinions rather than what's wrong with the music.
Perhaps it's just me, I like Country, Opera, Classical, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Metal. I just like music and that includes Nickleback.

I was lukewarm to Country music (at best when I was younger), now I love it to death.

Nickelback is hated for their color-by-number corporate rock style.
To call Nickelback a great rock band is to call Air Supply a great rock band.
Because they totally changed their sound. Think of Def Leppard for example. The first two albums were very edgy for the era. MTV comes along and management (or whoever) decides they should be more radio-friendly, sing ballads, etc and now they cater to a whole different audience. Aerosmith, same thing.
