why not have a friendly contest. take a unit bettor vs a flat bettor. start on aug 31st til end of season. post all your plays you wagered and how much. at the end see who was more profitable.

Obvious flaws:

1. Variance. A better record doesn't prove anything.

2. Skill. The bettors won't be of equal skill so their expected records will differ anyway.

I vary my bet size from 1/2 unit to 5 units, maybe 6 or 7 if everything lines up (twice last NBA season). For me, I will admit that the main reason I vary them is because some games I admittedly can't really find an edge, but want action on it.

If I make, say, $800 one Sunday afternoon in the NFL, I am going to have a bet down on the Sunday night game, regardless. If I really don't like either side I will usually put down like $50, even though most of my bets during the day were for 100-300.

One isolated situation where I totally got screwed. I have had
major success with my big wager amounts. Just go to SBR and
look under imgv94 and you will see whats up..

You are a pure piece of shit for reminding me of that btw.

in my opinion when youi put in a bet you have 100 percent confidence that it could win. if you dont then i have no idea why you place the bet. ranking the bets is pointless in my opinion, especially if my top pick loses, then I'm down because i picked a game i liked a little more when in reality if i didn't like my picks i wouldnt put them in.

Exactly. In for a penny, in for a pound. Does it make sense to bet a game you "kind of like"? If you're not sure, let it go.

The more games you add, the more of a chance of paying vig. Gambling on sports shouldn't be the same as picking food at the buffet table. If you go 5-1 and the one loss is your big bet, you're doing something wrong.

I'm a same amount, every game player. 2 - 3 games a day. Good or bad, I don't know.

i just dont see why people rank picks even if its a game you really really like, becuase if it doesnt hit then you are down for the day

Seems like a pessimistic attitude. What if you win? If you have two 1-unit bets and a 3-unit bet, winning the big one guarantees a winning day and holds promise for an outstanding day.
Yes, if it loses you are guaranteed a losing day, but why think that way? This is obviously your favorite play for the day so why not make a stand?

I strongly, strongly believe in flat wagering (even flat 'to wager' amounts.)

There are lots of ways to skin a cat (who wants to skin a cat?) and we all have to do the things that get us there, but I recommend flat wagering to anyone who will listen.

HOWEVER, I am working on a random draw idea for wager amounts and though the average draw I would make is where I want to be wagering, the wager amounts will vary....randomly.

Under normal circumstances when I am not working on crazy-nutbally ideas, flat wagering is for me.

I've lost too many that I loved. I've won too many that I liked. That led me to flat wagering. It is also less stress on my brain.

Good luck and I believe that many can go with the varied wager size and do well.

Everyone has there own style, what may work for one might not work

1. Action
2. Jjust because you like a play less than others doesn't mean there is not still value.

If there are 2 plays, a +150 and a +180 dog, and you give them both a 50% chance of winning, wouldn't you put more on the +180?? It is a "stronger" play, but that doesn't mean the +150 isn't worth playing as well.

Action is the main reason people do it and if those two ML dogs have a 50% of winning, you should be playing them for the same amount as your other bets, right? :103631605

I'll give you a choice. I could give you three games that have a 90% chance of winning or you could have 6 games that have 60% chance of winning.

Which would you take?

Insiders, my Mature RX Brother, you have a WITNESS! I love to hammer the plays that I LOVE! Don't win them all, but still do quite nicely. LT:103631605 :toast: :money8:

To clarify my situation a bit. Over the years I have learned the hard way that College Football, which I LOVE, is my MAIN moneymaker! The NFL and everything else I basically don't like so I NEVER bet them for "investment" purposes. Sorta like ACE-ACE. Experience will enable you to have a feel when the "NUTTS" appear! As I said earlier, they don't always win but they enable me to maximize my BR's growth. We are all different so go with what you are comfortable with. God, I LOVE College Football!:103631605 :toast:  LT

Don't really see how that's relevant. Whatever, to each his own. I just find myself "liking" certain plays more than others. That doesn't mean I have to throw out the ones I like less if I still think there's value...
