you cant control if the opponent gets a hit though, thats up to your defense. whip also counts intentional walks. its a good stat, but is more flawed

By striking out alot of guys doesn't mean your a great pitcher. I'd rather not give up any hits or walks than K alot of guys.

I like quality starts. Any pitcher who pitches into the second half a game allowing three runs or less is doing his job and that is keeping his team in the game. Danny Haren fwiw leads the league with 18.

ratio (whip)
baserunners per innings nine translates into runs scored.

K:BB suggests control.

Ratio is more important.

I just cant fully accept this theory on pitching. Guys just dont hit as well against top tier SPs compared to #5 guys.

I would say K/9 is better than K:BB.

Player A 2.71 K:BB, 5.62 K/9, WHIP .94

Player B 2.84 K:BB, 4.76 K/9, WHIP 1.29

Player C 3.58 K:BB, 4.82 K/9, WHIP 1.28

their OWN OBP...Lincecum gets pulled after dominating for a pinch hitter who does exactly what he could have/get out..and the next inning..RELIEF BOMB and the No Decision...so yeah..i think their own OBP is a big factor haha
