I got up this am and there was a message from windows saying "system was low on virtual memory" whats that mean exactley??

that means your using all the physical memory (RAM) that you have in your computer...so the next resort for your PC is to go to its page file a.k.a Virtual Memory which is pretty much allocated space on your hard drive...

You must have some big programs running in the background thats hogging up your memory

All you probably need to do is reboot. A lot of programs have resource leaks that drain your available memory over time.

This is one of the primary reasons why an occasional reboot is a good idea :103631605 .

Means you took too many drugs Shaun.

Paging file is overloaded, ram is overloaded. Get windows washer, use it everyday. Increase size of paging file. Can do that manually or have Windows select its own values. If you use a lot of memory heavy programs together you need to increase paging file to several hundred meg.

Pat, if you get this often-you could probably use more RAM.

With XP, I suggest 512mb at the very least & as cheap as it is, 1gb is really the way to go.

These morons that ship Win XP with 256mb of memory are on crack.....it runs like CRAP with only 256.
