The first tie breaker if a team does not play other team tied with (head to head) is division record, therefore GB would win the tie breaker with the Giants if they (NYG) lose 1 of 2 games. GB wiull be 5-1 in their division if they beat the bears.

Bye the way, all this talk about how bad G Bay is.... Who has Chicago beaten? Seahwks, Giants, big deal both teams are crap.

Bears will lose to the Cowboys/Saints winner if NFC Championship.

This isn't true when comparing teams from different divisions, divisional record isn't considered.

Then NFL.com is incorrect? It shows the order of the tie breakers and lists division record as the second tie breaker.

You have to read a little more carefully. You were reading from the section that breaks ties within a division. Here from NFL.com:

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.

Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.

Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in conference games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.

As a Packer fan I am delighted you all went through all this trouble to post the tie breakers and who gets in. One thing that is not mentioned enough is....the Packers have to beat the Bears in Chicago.

The Bears are not going to let them win by any means as Chop said in the first post. GB v Chicago is the oldest riveral in sports. When Lovie Smith has hired as coach, his #1 goal was to beat GB and keep beating them.

This game is huge for the Bears to go into the playoffs with a WIN also.

The Bears will beat the Packers and the Packers will NOT make the playoffs.

PLAYOFFS.....PLAYOFFS......please.

In all liklihood and probability, you're probably right.

But thats why they play the games.

If the Packers do indeed beat the Bears (which I don't see happening) and get into the playoffs, it would be the first time since the season began and Green Bay stood at 0-0, that Green Bay would not have a losing record.

After losing the playoff game they'd be back to where they belong.

Packers' Christmas Eve wish: Giants loss

New York holds tiebreaker edge

Green Bay - To advance to the Chicago Bears game with a shot at the playoffs still on the line, the Green Bay Packers have to hope for one thing.

A New York Giants loss Sunday.

The Giants, to a degree, hold the Packers' playoff hopes in their hands as they take on the New Orleans Saints at the Meadowlands. If they win, they will have assured themselves of a tiebreaker advantage over the Packers in record against common opponents, and it appears, eliminate any hope Green Bay would have of winning even a three-way tie.

The reason this game is so important is because the Packers lost to the Saints, and if there is a tie between the Giants and Packers, a victory for the Giants Sunday would sway the common opponents tiebreaker in New York's direction.

Going into Sunday, the Giants have lost five of their last six games and three straight at home.

If the Giants lose Sunday, the Packers are still in it because another Giants' loss would put them at 7-9 and a Packers' victory would put them at 8-8.

The Packers are also rooting this weekend for Carolina to win at Atlanta and Washington to win at St. Louis, which would aid their cause.

The Packers' best chance for making the playoffs remains the Giants losing their final two games (New Orleans, at Washington), Atlanta losing one of two (Carolina, at Philadelphia), St. Louis losing once (Washington, at Minnesota) and Seattle winning once (San Diego, at Tampa Bay).
