Conan, I love you brother of the past but Oregon will have a DIFFICULT time just to have a winning season this year.

YES...MARK THIS POST my friend and I will gladly eat CROW if I am wrong.

Ducks are in for a trying season with a first year coaching staff coming off a losing season.
get your hot sauce ready for some crow :)

i think Ducks are set for a very nice turnaround. They have not only assembled an outstanding coaching staff (best in P12?) but entire team is made up of recruiting classes that finished no lower than 28th in the country. Cumulatively that would probably rate only behind USCw, and maybe Stanford, in the P12. They avoid USCw this year and I can't see them worse than 6-6 with a bowl invite.

Wouldn't be the first time RT......

Haven't completed last year (2016) but for year's 2013, 2014 and 2015 only three head coaches who took over a losing program had a winning first season. Try 3-30-1 for those three years. I can list every one of them but here are the winning coaches............

The 3 winners were 2015 (Harbaugh 10-3), 2013 (Malzahn 12-2) and (Addazio 7-6). Bill Clark (UAB 6-6 avoided the plague in 2014.

Oregon can go undefeated as far as I'm concerned but I AIN't bucking 3-30-1 in anything!

Had any of those 3-30 losers won 4 BCS bowl games, amassed a 97-20 W/L over the previous 10 years
and played in a national championship game twice in the previous 6 seasons?

One sorry ass overpaid HC and a DC who could barely count to 4 (which is why he thought he was smarter
than everyone else.) Not to mention a dud senior transfer quarterback who's play was so bad he silenced an
entire state... in other words a perfect storm and you are willing to go on record and say there's another one
right behind the last because you can squeeze in some kind of non-sequitur trend and say "AH HA!" the Ducks
are destined to join the next batch and add themselves to the losing side of 3-30?

Watch me use my elephant repellent Clover. It consists of me flapping my arms vigorously, looking like a penguin.
No elephants around are there?
You see it works.

Trend on that!

The Ducks just landed another top 300 recruit Tre'Shaun Harrison (ATH.)
Amazing balance, ball control and speed. He plays just about anywhere he's
needed. That makes 9 top 300 recruits going to Oregon thus far. Duck's HC
Willie Taggart is hot.

Conan, I hope your Ducks do well this season.

Kinda unfortunate Washington has put them in the rear view mirror.

Just saying my friend.................

Washington's rise was predictable.
I knew it would happen after they fired Sarkisian and signed Chris Petersen.
Y'all need to watch out for that guy. Look at what he managed to pull off at
Boise time and time again. Maybe Taggart will prove to be his nemesis but
that's a big maybe.

Oregon Ducks WR Darren Carrington suspended following DUII arrest.

So much for him finishing his career at Oregon.

I think the D coordinator they stole from Colorado is the real deal, it will only be a matter of time if they can recruit at the level you talk about.

This "old man's" two-cents worth: We all know football teams don't win games based on performances of years gone-bye but I like the "Marcus Mariota" legacy
that still lingers in the Ducks program. Speed, speed, and more speed which spells offensive fire-power. I'm convinced that Oregon football teams will always
have that trait in their offense (the fans, their team uniforms and shoes will insist) ....It's in the programs culture....The rafters in Autzen "rattle" long after the season ends....Lot of points to get the fans all lathered-up.

Every football fan today loves offensive fire-power. The days of the 21-7 or 14-7 (even 7-0) defensive battles are long-gone. (50 yard + field goal kickers saw to that by themselves).

The challenge today is to field a defense which will allow your offense to stay within striking distance to win it down the stretch (late in the 4th quarter). That is what wins National Championships today (i.e. Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, FSU et al).

Oregon football has half of the formula figured out.....A lot of points will be scored in Eugene for many years to come...It's in their gene pool.

ESPN’s Tom Luginbill on Oregon: “This job is a bigger challenge than it was three or four years ago. They’ve lost some of their cool factor, people have caught up to some degree, the on-field product hasn’t been as strong. You bring in Willie Taggart, who assembled a terrific staff. In the year’s we’ve ranked classes, Oregon’s never finished in the top 10. They’ve only been in the top 20 three times. This is a class poised for a top-15 finish, potentially. They are making a big statement.”

Tell that to Jim McElwain and Will Muschamp, please! I'm sick of the inept offense these two assholes have put on the field!!! :D

Holycrap!!
The Ducks wind up with a 3rd generation hand-me-down for a head coach and after a spectacular year by Vernon Adams who came in for Mariotta when he left, the Ducks wind up with a dud Sr. transfer QB who just couldn't cut it. All the while Mr. Brady Hoke was proving to be a monumental mistake at DC and Luginbill exclaims they've lost some of their cool factor??? That my friends was not a "loss of cool factor", it was a complete mess from many angles.

As one of the Duck faithful, I am willing to give Knight and his brain trust a mulligan and let it go at that.
But Taggart's high powered recruiting has been a big surprise to me. They are ranked in the top 10 for 2018
and I see no reason why they can't remain there.

True but there can only be one champ per year vs lots of crowd pleasing points for all of the other fans.

Just making a point with a local high school team. Hot shot coach was brought in with his high flying offense that he had been successful with at a much lower division school. After two losing seasons he switch to the double wing option offense with a concentrate on DEFENSE. Turned a winning season his first try and looking forward to this season. Many think he will win the conference championship. Probably save his $87,000 per year salary.

Defense maybe???

Conan, it's not just that....I'd love to see a 1990's Steve Spurrier Fun-n-Gun offense again....but McElwain's offenses have been ranked lower at UF than Muschamp's were! I didn't think that was even possible! McElwain put up the 116th ranked offense last year! Think about that! And UF won the SEC East! (which is like being the smartest retard in a class full of retards!). I just want a competent offense, something ranked in the top 50 overall - top 6 or so in the SEC.

Taggert has shown that he's going to have things his way, regardless. As his recruiting stats rise ever higher and higher now with an impressive 10 top 300 recruits thus far committed to the 2018 class, (a number of whom he stole from Florida) he's shown that he has a willingness to let go of players that aren't suited to his personal style if given a reason, regardless of their past team standing.

Talk about some guts, today he dismissed Darren Carrington, the Ducks #2 WR for violating team standards with a DUI offense.

Top Oregon WR Darren Carrington dismissed 2 weeks after DUI arrest

Jul 15, 2017

Oregon
dismissed standout wide receiver Darren Carrington on Friday, two weeks after the fifth-year senior's arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Ducks coach Willie Taggart said in a statement that he informed Carrington on Friday that he was no longer a member of the program.
"We will always consider Darren a Duck and support him in any way we can," Taggart said in the statement. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Darren Carrington led the Ducks with 606 receiving yards and ranked second with 43 receptions in 2016. AP Photo/Ross D. FranklinOregon had indefinitely suspended Carrington following his July 1 arrest. Police stopped him in downtown Eugene after receiving a call of a possibly intoxicated driver.

Carrington projected to be Oregon's top wide receiver in his fifth season, after he led the team with 606 receiving yards and ranked second with 43 receptions in 2016. The speedy Carrington averaged 17.1 yards per reception with 15 touchdowns during his career.
He was suspended for the College Football Playoff National Championship against Ohio State in January 2015, reportedly for failing an NCAA-mandated drug test. He wasn't eligible for the first half of the following season but still had 609 receiving yards and six touchdowns. While serving the suspension, Carrington was cited by police for an open container violation.
Last season, a man told The Oregonian that Carrington shoved him, causing him to fall and break his arm, hours after a game against Arizona State. Eugene police investigated the incident but ultimately did not charge Carrington.
