$2000 a month is a good real good salary in my opinion. But not a high percentage of employees are getting that. $800-$1000 is what the average employee is making in this business though.

Minimum I've seen for clerks is is $3.50 an hour. You don't even want to know what the national min wage is here.

Depends on how you want to live and what responsibilities you have.

Agree, a respectable costarican salary rounds the $2000, but it's true, most clerks makes less than $1000, which isn't bad either...

You can make a living with $900 just fine... forget luxuries and partying hard though

Not true...good ones make more....

See...now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

Say you got a guy or gal that comes down and is sufficiently bilingual to reliably communicate with both Spanish and English speaking clients.

They come in at entry level and learn the business while demonstrating Good Core Values like showing up on time, being honest on the job and having a generally upbeat attitude.

How much "more"? Is $8-10 an hour believable at any point?

Including possibility here that some form of supervision and management might ensue.

Not happening homie. You got 1000 fucking gringos coming down here to work at a book and you want to ask more, than 500 hundred of them? Forget about it. Supply and demand. If you get $5/hour you are lucky. In the states a bookie would pay 10 fold, in CR you are safe so you aren't getting that. The money is in the risk.

Cummie Cumm was crazy for moving down thinking he would get a lines job as a opinionated speculator, but as a clerk... you won't make more than $6/hour even if you gave a shit hot run down.

Bottomline, don't expect to come from the states and work lines or make a more than average wage. More than half the guys who tout, have no experience with DGS or ASI software so they would fuck the lines in a heartbeat. Why would they pay a gringo, when they have 100 ticos that would fight for that lines manager position?

I got decent tits (though very small) and a pretty good ass from what my wife tells me, but I bet I'm not going to compete with the 20something Ticas.

Ah well...will continue my other ventures (see the Hiring Clerks thread) and see y'all asap as a visitor and part time resident

What it comes down to is who you know and what owners are paying for good clerks...and timing is everything...

That is very true, a good clerk/rep that actually makes it past the reception area and actually talks to someone important(manager or owner) can easily get between 7 and 10 bucks an hour.

Unfortunately for me I was making something in that range doing the same thing at the same place I am working now but I left to pursue another option that paid almost double unfortunately for me I realized I prefered hapiness and respect over a good salary. Now here I am back where I was making less than before(Im sure there is a lesson to be learned here) but atleast they hired me back as it is one of the best jobs I have ever had. Not burning bridges is very important in life, unless of course the bridge leads to a place that you would never want to return to then burn that bitch.

I used to clerk for a few credit shops and I made decent wages at $100 a day........That used to be standard, but things sure have changed.

I went into sales with two really big books and thats when the BIG money started rolling in...... We were hitting big $$$$$$$ every week in commissions PLUS a 5% commission on anything we brought in. Netteller was the shiznik and made it so easy to bring in big money!!!!!!

I brought in a $100K deposit right before the bottom gave out on the sales department and I will never forget that paycheck for a weeks work.... Almost $9K once all commisisons were added to my $5K commision just from that one guy!!!

Unfortunately those jobs are gone and sportsbooks are now 90% made up of Costa Ricans and the Americans that were down here have all gone their own paths..... Charlie, Psycho, Rick, Boozer, John, and many many more who have either passed on to better lives or are back in the States doing other things....

Will have to 2nd this Statement. We have brought some guys from the States that we had paid more. Because we knew then, or worked with them before.

Sorry to say, It really comes down to WHO you know.
