I have a gambling debt of 17,000 that needs to be paid off within 2 weeks. i had 2,000 in my various offshore accounts as of thursday and since then have built it up to 8,000. would you try to slowly ride that up over the next 2 weeks or would u wait for a game u really liked (assuming there is one) in the next 2 weeks and let it ride? thanx.

No game, IMO, is worth more than 5 % of your bankroll.

Remember, it's a daily grind. Others will say, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

Both are correct.

BOL to you.

To be honest Sherman, would have to know the specifics of your debt and who you owe this money to.

I wish you the best.

Sherman, you probably don't want to hear this, but, what I would do is pay 8000 now and then establish a payment plan for the rest. And I would stop betting.

agree with the judge here. best thing to do is work out a plan to payoff the debt and stop digging the hole deeper. once you are clean, look back at what you did wrong and try to formulate a plan including money management and staying away from sports that kill you.

i did this a few years back and it worked for me.

I have a question regarding this. I'm 25 and have only been playing for about a year, and I'm wondering if the reason I never really see much gain has to do with how much I deposit (usually between $100-$300) Do you think thatthis mbe to small of a bankroll to start with, or is it that I just haven't made any strides as far as capping?

Lawrence: Overbetting isn't the answer. Taking advantage of Bonuses will help a LOT. Skybooks offer yesterday was a great one, I couldn't do it myself, as I had no money in Neteller.

You must know the math. 52.4 % to break even against -110. 55% winners is all you can realistically hope to achieve long-term. You can't cheat and bet more than your bankroll can take, or you will hit a bad streak and bust out. Take it slow.

what is your average bet? if you are depositing $300 and betting $150/game, that seems like a ton of extra work doing transactions for no reason.

if you lack discipline, the amount you deposit is not the issue. how much you deposit shouldn't really matter...unless you get down to a certain dollar amount then say "screw it, i'll just put the balance on a 3-team nfl parlay".

i mostly play with a local now so, depositing is not an issue. i play the same amount on every game so, i am not tempted to "catch up" if i have a bad day.

to me the key is getting the best number, knowing which side the public is on, and not chasing losses. you do that and you should come out ahead.

the FACT that you have a $17000 gambling debt tells me you are a loser in gambling so the FACT that you have built up $2000 to $8000 means you have been on a lucky streak.

My advice and take it how you will is take the $8000 - pay the man and agree to pay over a period and stop gambling - period. Sounds like you'll mess up your life otherwise.

Harsh advice but you'll thank me for it years down the line.

That credit with the local is a problem. Tony Soprano may come and break your body parts. Playing catch-up is likely to fail. A plan seems reasonable.

I prefer making smaller deposits. First, because I am not rich like everyone else here, and second because I like the challenge of turning a 200.00 deposit into 1000.00(Which I have done before)

Listen to the Judge.

Take the time and energy you have been using for gambling and re-apply it in your life.
A) Find a good women who earns enough to support your gambling habit
b) dedicate yourself to your job and obtain a raise/bonus and use that $ as your new capital if and when you return to gambling.

best of luck

Baseball Guy - I have been betting profitably for at least 10 years straight and i'll tell you that my bets range from 0-5% of my betting bank.

If your starting with a bank of $300 you max bet should be $15 and average bets between $4 - $8.

From this I presume you are staking too much for your bankroll. I can't comment on your handicapping but just be honest to yourself - you know how good/bad you are.

I agree with Judge. I don't know you, but by the looks of your debt and what your plans are you should consider taking a break. These are signs of a gambling problem. You need a whole new approach or quit gambling.

UT,good question. No one in their right mind is gonna resort to violence if it isn't warrented. If Sherman pays the guy the 8g now, don't wait for 2 weeks, and offers a payment program, and THEN STICKS TO IT. I am sure there will be no problems.
