What big leaguer`s number did you have to have as a kid when you waited in line for your uniform?

For me it was simple, of course every kid on the team wanted #5 ...as #5 stood for the one and only Brooks Robinson...

Playing 3rd base and wearing #5 was it!
Until after a few years I realized shortstop got all the plays lol!

in baseball

most #s went 1-13

#1 for for small shits
#13 for the big asses

in t-ball some how i was given 13 being a small shit

so, i always wanted it.

but then because of the sizes, and i was a small shit i tried for #3.

in football

i wanted #34

but settled for #32
and always wanted the same number every year

you would think that if you were on the same team you would always get the same #

but you either had to place yourself in line for that #

or fight over it

In Baseball it was #7 for Mickey Mantle. In Baskets it was #33 for Kareem. In football it was #12 for Joe Namath!

in little league - all teams had numbers 1-12 so this was irrelevant.

but NOW - the number i always wear is:

15

in th early 80s, dad took my bro and i to a l.a. kings hockey game at the forum. we got their early and went down to ice level so that after the kings practiced, we could plead for a player to flip a puck up our way. usually it never worked. a few players would do this - but with so many people down there - we never got one.

not this time. darryl evans - who scored the game winner in the "miracle on manchester" - flipped one up my way. it was nice and slow and right in my bread basket. i caught it and was ecstatic.

evans wore #15. as my way of saying "thank you" to him - from that point on i ALWAYS wore #15. he now does color for kings' radio broadcasts and i have gotten a chance to tell him about this - and he is blown away flattered (or so he says).
