As a 30+yr Raiderfan, I'll say this.
1st of all Fair was right. That press conference was an absolute must see. I've never seen anything like that after all these years.
After watching the press conference, the Cable intro, the Kiffin counter interview, Nmamdi's take on NFLN, then all the analysis, at the end of the day I honestly feel dillusional. My head is still spinning. I personally think the truth between Lane vs Al is in the middle. both of em are telling the truth and both are lying.
I am sad to see him go though. Lane and his staff brought more promise to this team and the fanbase than any coach since Gruden. He made them competitive again and I honestly think they're just on the cusp of turning the corner towards winning some games.
In the end however I do have to say that as sharp and as convincing as Al sounded today, IMO he's pretty much reduced himself to salesman. No more, no less. He can preach and prophesize about returning to greatness and winning all he wants. The fact of the matter is this is his 5th "We'll Be Great, We'll Be Back" speech in 6 years.
I can't help but think of Albert Einstein's quote, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"
