People soccer cant be. The most obvious answer is professional boxing. There is a reason why boxers take months to recover from one 10-12 round bought. 90% of the people here couldnt even go three rounds at half the punch rate a normal boxer goes at.

Why would this even be debatable? Think of it this way, If a high school kid can play whatever sport you mention at the same rate of energy exertion a professional does then that sport is not that tough. High school kids play soccer games on back to back weeks for the full 90 minutes same as pros.

It requires stamina but it does not expel that much energy. The only reason it was listed in that espn article is because soccer players are considered to be the fittest in the world because they run over a wider area and for a longer time while engaging in a wide range of speed and motion. (so that removes all long distance runners that run at a pace or any variation of marathons)

The soccer player is back on the field one week later while the marathoner goes to relax for a month

I disagree with that because you can't compare a high school team with a professional team like Barcelona or other elite teams: They might play for the same amount of time every weekend, but at a way slower pace with far less movement/running involved.

I agree with you on soccer though, I highly doubt it's soccer: Even a professional player averages just 8-14km during a 90min match and that includes a lot of walking and light jogging. And those numbers of 8-14km go down very quickly once you go down in leagues: In an amateur league it's probably way below 10km on average, probably closer to 6-8km. You also get lots of breaks because of fouls, corner/free kicks, halftime and during the ball being a play, but on the other end of the field.
Indoor soccer/futsal or in general 5on5 soccer on a much shorter pitch is way more exhausting because of the higher pace and constant moving around (although you run shorter distances), so I might rate that higher than basketball.
But I still would rate them lower than long distance running or duathlon/triathlon, even though you can't really compare these two because they require a different kind of stamina, so it might differ because of the person you ask. The long distance sports require you to maintain a certain speed for a long period of time, while sports like futsal, basketball etc. test your skills/stamina in interval running, therefore accelerating and sprinting rather short distances over and over again. So although your overall distance is way lower, the short intervals all put you under high stress.

Doing a quick web search, I found these numbers from 2005/06, since then the numbers should have gone up quite a bit:

Averages:
According to The Sunday Times website, midfielders in England's Premiership worked the hardest in the 2005-06 season, running on average 7 miles, 246 yards per game. Right midfielders win the distinction of performing the most "high-intensity" runs -- running at a three-quarter sprint speed or faster -- averaging nearly 150 bursts per game that cover 339 yards. Discounting goalkeepers, centerbacks ran the least amount per game, yet still impressively averaged six miles, 332 yards. Gennaro Gattuso of Italy's AC Milan racked up more than 6-1/2 miles in the 2007 semifinal of the Champion's League, suggesting that the particular league a player is a part of has no bearing on the average distance covered during a professional soccer match.

So, let me get this straight: You are going to actually stick with your contention
that poker is a sport? Really?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAA

Another clue for you: Just because it's on ESPN, doesn't make it a sport.

I still stick with my answer ... Male Porn actors have to have the most stamina and endurance. You ever try keeping it up all day, day after day. Of course they are encouraged to use performance enhancing drugs contrary to the other sports ...

Sorry, at poker player the thread took an ugly turn so I couldn't resist ... :bunnies:

I know this isn't a sport but an activity but Skateboarding used to take a lot out of me when I was a teenager. Keep in mind we usually had to skate a few miles just to get to our destination like a business park, school with lots of stairs and rails or a ramp or drained pool in someones backyard. Then we would easily put in 3 hour skate sessions trying to learn, perform and perfect our tricks. It can get pretty painful too with the board busting up your shins and knees and scrapping your palms and elbows on the concrete.
