I'd be surprised if they won a single game.

That's actually what I intended to write...Would not be able to win a single set (which demands at least a +2 advantage)

I say Tennis because they quit a lot, of course an injury needs to occur ( or a fake one) or the kid shouldn't win one game.

As others have said, Bowling- straight up. Lots of guys who bowl 5 leagues a week could give a pro all they could handle, even with crazy lane patterns. The major problem for the amateur would be if they had to go under the hot TV lights with the crowd, etc.

theres plenty of sports where average joe or some guy who just didnt make it for whatever reason who just isnt a pro could beat a pro. MMA, Pool, golf, bowling( hell back 2-3 years ago when i was playing a few times a week i would top 210-220 every game) basketball even i got to think a athletic 6'4-8 guy could take a guy like reggie evans, scalabrine and those big stiffs that are barely hanging on rosters

if your talking about the unathletic guy in gym class then no chance in any sport

This.
I'm a former bowler, you get a talented amateur that has a down and in game (like Walter Ray Williams) and put him on oiled lanes that don't hook, conducive to a down and in style, put him up against a big hooking pro, I'll take the amateur every time.

I agree. I've never understood why a bowler would have a big hook because the lane conditions change so much. One would be constantly changing the spin to accomodate changing lane conditions.

But if we are talking a 3-game series, pro vs. amateur, there are many amateurs that could put together an 800+ series to beat a pro that has an off series and only bowls a 700-800 series.

Sure with billiards. I could play a game of 9 ball against the best and sink the 9 on the break. I'm talking more like the match, not a game or point.

I think Tennis for winning the match, at just like average HS level.

Average High School player wouldn't be able to win a game, let alone a set. Forget the fitness level or players, half the guys on tour struggle with Isner's serve, what would some high school kid do. They may get a game against Juan Carlos Ferra, but they aren't winning a set.

no usta or rec player has a chance of winning even a couple games against a top 100 tennis player. Their serves are far superior to what you see locally

Hahah MMA? Just because every Joe Schmo off the street thinks he's tough after a few beers doesn't mean he'll stand a chance. Anyone without MMA experience should go into a Jiu Jitsu or kickboxing local school and see how they fair. They'd get their asses handed to them by guys that aren't even nearly as well-rounded or skilled as pro fighters.

Here's a video of a guy named Manny Reyes Jr. challenging Hermes Franca. Reyes talked tons of shit beforehand about this same thing. Franca was 9-2 at the time and is now 22-12... Reyes challenged him very little training. Franca wasn't an elite fighter in his division at this time at all and was fresh off a 2-2 stint in the UFC.

PS, the cool thing about that fight was Franca fought the guy for like $1 just to shut him up. Didn't want any money.

Today at the PGA tour golf tournament, amatuer Patrick Cantly played in same group with Tiger Woods. Cantly shot 69, Tiger shot 73. Looks like golf is the answer...
