kind of agree... shit can't remember the last time I watched more than 2 innings of any baseball game...
Who is the most publicly known player in the world series?
Matt Harvey? I don't even know.
Baseball players got it pretty nice, 9 figure contracts and don't even gotta worry about getting noticed in public anymore.
If straight bet gambling were allowed in the US ratings would quadruple in all sports and steadily increase every year. Theres a lot of money to be made other than the vig.
Quadruple seems a bit much. I think there are a lot less people out there dying to bet on the Royals-Mets than you think.
I mean it would provide a boost but baseball just is so slow and we live in a faster paced society than ever. People constantly need to be stimulated in one way or another.
This is also why I think casino business is down a little. Getting someone who grewup in this technological age to sitdown and play blackjack for 2-3 hours seems very challenging.
You certainly know better about this, but wasn't he a big story/star in his rookie year rather constantly making headlines? I get it that most people wouldn't recognize him (remember him interviewing New Yorkers about their opinion on Matt Harvey for the Jimmy Kimmel show without being recognized...not sure how much was real and how much staged...), but seemed like he became quite a household name in NYC.and Really only Known ( Harvey ) because he's still signed to that rookie contract, which he will be able to get a hell of lot more next year. and the innings limit...
Not taking away how good he is... But if it wasn't about the above, he wouldn't be in the News as much.
Good point
I was at the casino last night with a friend who brought their 21 year old daughter, even she was watching monday night football because she plays fantasy football. I firmly believe that the rise of NFL ratings is mostly because of fantasy football, where the games star based and people route for their favorite players. NFL has a commercial every few minutes and the plays are are dead fast, so it's not like the NFL's popularity is due to it not being a slow game.
Seriously imagine betting in all 50 states on the app, trading dollars at ease. Team sports like baseball and Hockey would have huge improvements in ratings where people can bet on the team. Everyone I know in Nevada has all the sports packages here because betting is easy and legal. I can make bets throughout the game with live betting right from my phone.
Can you do the live betting on a website or is it only app-based?
I'm not saying it wouldn't help but I think people underrate how easy it is to bet on sports. Most people who wanna get action on the Mets/Royals can.
Also, I've gone back and forth on this but I really don't see that type of accessibility happening anytime soon in all 50 states. Maybe a few states then it gets into double digits but all 50 states via app I just don't really see. Don't think the casino lobby would be thrilled about that either.

But agree that Wright & him might be the only big names on both teams known to non-baseball-fans.
And unless he agrees to a longterm contract buying out his arbitration years, he should still remain rather cheap for the Mets, would expect him to get something in the vicinity of 7mio in his 1st year of arbitration next year. Depending on next years performance obviously.
At least if you look at recent arbitration-numbers like Tyson Ross, who ended up with an ERA of 2.8x while striking out a batter per inning and pitching almost 200 innings, still got "only" a bit more than 5mio a year. So if you take into account him having a bigger name, his case being done a couple of years later and him having pitched more seasons at that high level than Ross, but on the downside his TJ surgery...
