Coincidentally Saving Private Ryan is coming on TNT Saturday @7pm, but basic cable will take so much from what makes it great.

Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, and the not yet mentioned Hamburger Hill.

If I happen to stumble into any of those three by accident, I'm stuck for the duration and will watch to the end.

One final entry which is maybe just me.. but "Midway" is an all-time favorite that I can't turn off. The fact that it's based on truth and Japan had our asses pretty much kicked by sheer numbers makes this one a winner. If it was fiction, maybe not such a believable story, but knowing it's based on truth and the USA turned the tide of the entire war at Midway makes it one I can never turn off.

Heartbreak Ridge with Eastwood as Gunny Highway will hold my attention everytime. I think Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now get credtr for their one liners they provide us to chucle by than the actual theme's and lessons of the material. The origional MASH movie was much the same. The comic relief overshadowed the sadness and suffering.

If Saving Private Ryan didn't have the beach storming opening, will it still be #1 for some people?

When I first read this I thought it just said favorite movie of all time and I was thinking wtf is up with all the war movies.

Full Metal Jacket or a Few Good Men for me.

Most overrated? The Hurt Locker. Not a terrible movie by any means, but not even close to as good as everyone made it out to be
