What is this Scientology about?

I see actors and actresses into this religion of scientology, what is this anyway? Is this some Hollywood thing or what? What`s the basic belief about?

Any scientolgists among us? It seems to be a hollywood thing, more than anything...

I am sure Fishhead will have some input, he seems to have a little knowledge on all subjects...

You can find a great deal of information on the net about scientology.

In my opinion, it is very "cultish" and ultimately a scam. From what I understand, they expect a great deal of money from their members. That is likely the reason why they seem to be targeting the wealthy and famous. I definitely am no expert on it, and don't wish to be, but from briefly reading about it, it screamed "scam" at me right off the bat.

it is basically a cult that involves its members to create oppertunity for one another. not say people shouldn't help people out that they are close to, but to go as far as tom crusie has gone is crazy. he has fired all the people that have worked for him for years including his lawyers and replaced them all with members from his scientology religion. this is also true for john travolta.

 

I have this book, Dianetics, but I have never read it through. Just all kind of bullshit.

Hubbard was a noted pulp fiction writer, writing for many of the science fiction, mystery, and western rags that were popular in his day. The recent Battlefield Earth movie with Travolta is based off of some of his work.

Dianetics has since turned into a huge religious cult, which is pretty humorous to me.

Scientology and dianetics are unbelievable scams, and I am aghast that people out there actually believe in it, except for the poor kids indoctrinated into it without their consent. Absolutely pathetic - only stupid or self-deceiving people, or cynical users looking to profit make up the membership of Scientology.
