i see now he is going to the Derby!!

I love this horse at 60-1 or something like that. I dont think they would go if they thought the horses feet were bad or horse was not ready to fire a big race. Like his determination, one bad race lets toss that one. Its my savor Winner if Tapit does not win!

St Averil, whose status for the Derby also was uncertain, apparently earned himself a spot in the race with a work at Santa Anita on Saturday that satisfied trainer Rafael Becerra.

"If he scopes clean and everything looks okay, it's a go," Becerra said, after St Averil worked six furlongs in 1:11.80 with jockey Tyler Baze. "I need to confer with the boss," Becerra said, referring to owner Stan Fulton. Advertisement

St Averil has been troubled by sore feet and had been training in egg bar shoes on his front legs. "When you work that good in egg bars, that's pretty good," said Becerra, who said

St Averil would wear conventional shoes in the Derby.

St. Averil is in Kentucky now and Baze will arrive Friday.
I've been in love with this guy all spring - even bought a st. averil hat at horsehats.com that I've been sporting.
He'll certainly be getting a chunk of my change - and trytry is right, the odds will be large.

one thing I have learned in handicapping the Derby is that too much emphasis is placed on the 7 days leading up to the race. Inevitably there is a "hot horse" that is working like a monster and there are question marks about others based on a morning gallop. The Kentucky Derby isn't won on what happens the week prior to the first Saturday in May.... it is won on a trainers ability to get the most from his animal on one particular day and the 12 months experience leading up to that day. I remember a colt named Charismatic that looked pretty shabby on the grounds the week before the Derby.
Damn it, too much wine....did I just jinx myself?
