Is there a reason the NCAA exists or do they just collect money from the schools? What service or benefit do they provide?

i read a rumor on www.sportsbybrooks.com that said that some members of the big 6 conferences have been discussing leaving the NCAA and forming there own league. Can you imagine how many problems this would cause? For sure the lawyers would get rich.

IMO, the ncaa just simply makes a butt load of money and doesnt give any back to the players. They all get paid anyway, why not just make it legal??

The NCAA is no longer useful for college sports. They had their purpose at one time, but have abused their power and made some pretty stupid decisions the last 5 years. There is no rhyme or reason in their decision-making, and no equality in their punishment. They need to be disbanned or have a good house cleaning.

it serves to feed the fat cats at the top of the food chain.

NCAA football is the only sport that I can think of that has no playoff to determine the winner.

What is the reason? see top.

Whatever happened to the CFA (College Football Association)? I heard this was formed to get around doing business with the NCAA.

KMAN- The NCAA is a joke. It's a bunch of bureaucratic fat cats making big salaries who sit around with their thumbs up their asses and try to find a way to bust an athlete who let a booster buy him a hamburger. But the NCAA has gotten so big and powerful because the member schools have allowed it to happen. The schools don't have to belong to the NCAA. They have chosen to join and now they've lost control and the NCAA runs the show. The top 20 or 30 sports universites and colleges could form their own league tomorrow. The other schools would follow suit and the NCAA would be out of business overnight.

The NCAA has no real legal authority although people think they do. When Notre Dame negotiated their own TV contract with NBC, I heard many people say "the NCAA will never let them do that". There was nothing at all the NCAA could do about it and they knew it. They didn't even try because had had no legal ground to do so.

Recently in Europe, the top 16 to 20 soccer clubs have begun to toy with the idea of forming their own superleague. They could do it and be very successful. Well, this scares the shit out of the FA, UEFA and FIFA because a huge part of their feeding trough would be out of their control and the vast majority of lackeys in those three organizations would have to get real jobs which is exactly what could and should happen to the NCAA.

I would like to see the NCAA, FA, UEFA and FIFA team up with Don King and Bob Arum and form their own alphabet soup organization. There are so many thieves in that group it would be a lot of fun to watch them jockey for the top position. I almost forgot. I'm sure the IOC (International Olympic Committee) would love to be included in this band of louts.
