unless you have friends in the business, then they may bring you down and pay you way more than you are worth(just ask BAS)

Yeah, Look how long it Took NES to land on his Feet @)

Just a country boy, born and raised in south
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

Oh Wait, that's the Lyric's for Don't stop Believing

Just Kidding....

But Now a days... it's harder..English is a PLUS ( didn't Help NES back then )

LOL, Just Kidding again

You Just need to know someone, that will give you a chance.

But Don't think you will make a Ton of Money. Won't happen.

FUnny BAS, reall effin funny :p Seriously though it literally has taken 12 years to barely land on my feet. It really is a tough business to truly succeed in. But IMO the hardest part about starting out without any contacts is convincing people you arent a Fed

Why in the World would You Want that ?

I am not saying I definitely would. But I am interested in how the business works and how some of you got into it in the first place. But on another note, why wouldnt I? I love sports, love gambling, love the renegade atmosphere of the business, and am sick of my current job.

If I did not have a baby I would pack myself up and go to Antigua or CR and bang on every single door until someone gave me a job. I grew up without money and have lived in poor conditions before. That doesnt bother me. I am getting to a point in my life where I am sick of doing a job I dislike. Obviously I have family responsibilities so I cannot just jump off at a whim chasing my dreams and I am proud that I can give my family a nice lifestlye.

But a part of me wants to just say fuck it and do something I really like which happens to be sports and gambling.

Well That's where it Stops. You have a Family, You have a Kid. are you Married ??

If so, then this Job is Not for you. Because even though there are plenty of Guys down in CR or Panama that are Married. They are Married Down there, to a Local or as close as a Local as possible.

For a Single Guy, IMHO it's a Great Job. Let's take NES ....
When he came down there, he was Not Married, Young... No Real responsibilities
* I don't want to Speak for Him* I'm only using him because I Know him when he first came down there.

But if you are Single, and can Live with Low means.... You Could work out.

But Far from Easy.... If you can Speak English like I said, it's a Plus and you will make more than the Locals. But NOT a Lot more.

If you have a Back round of being in the Business back in the States, that's another added Plus.

Also, from what I have seen and Heard. It's Really Not that much Cheaper in CR anymore.
Sure Rent is Much Cheaper, but the Buck Stops there !

Back in the day when I was in Margarita island... Those were the Days !
We had a Great Time. " Fun and games"

Don't think it's any longer that way.

But if you have NO responsibilities, then it's fine. Unless of course you are Higher up on the Ladder and making good Coin.

I'm sure Most of the Current guys can tell you better.

I am sure you guys could comment on Lay the Favorite. When she describes the atmosphere off Offshore in the good times, was it really that crazy? I am sure she embellishes for the book but it sounds like a great time for the industry and everyone involved.

There's a Thread Here somewhere that a bunch of us talk about. I think Most us Know Dinky well. I met him back in the late 70's at Roosevelt Raceway.

A few people I know weren't happy with that Book, and I will only guess they won't be happy about the Movie.

I think Dave has a lawsuit going ( his last name was used )

Judge Wapner knows a lot of the Cast of characters as well.

Should be a good Movie.... Funny thing is that Bruce Willis is Playing Dinky
and in NO WAY does dinky look like that :):)

What ever happened to A. Ross? As a client of Island Casino in it's fledgling state, I was asked if I would help beta test his Unified software. (the invite came thru email). I got to keep my winnings and that's what got me hooked on crackjack. I know the story of how Island got busted by the Feds and also know the story of his son back here in the USA. I haven't heard anything at all about A. Ross though in about 10 years. I think he had a user name on the Rx too. he referred me over to 5dimes as he was getting out of the business. I've been with 5dimes ever since. My personal experience with him was fair. But I know he was a big personality in the biz back then and I am sure others closer in the industry must have known him. Is he even still around ?

Well I answered my own question with a google search. Looks like his son Denny was supposed to be REtried for Hannah Hill's murder yesterday. The latest is that the trial has been pushed into 2012. A. Ross' name appears in lots of new articles and he appears to be chin deep in the defense of his son. There's my answer as to where he is and what he is doing. Looks like the whole Hannah Hill murder mystery is going to be news all over again during the re-trial.

Director of Human Resources in charge of cocktall waitresses and entertainment. Might as well file the sexual harrassment charge on me the first day on the job.
