What is Microsoft DCOM?

I downloaded a program this morning and when I go to install it --tells me: "Microsoft DCOM is not dected on your computer?

I'm not clear on what this program does?

Thanks for any help.

I looked this up - I can't help further because I don't know PCs well enough, but at least it's a little info ...

Much thanks to you TT and Jazz.

The program is for handicapping the horses. Mainly workouts for FTS. Come to think of it-when it comes to computers I'm a FTS.
