What would be harder for the AVERAGE middle-aged man to do?

Get a basehit off of Pedro at his peak or...........

Return a top-notch womens professional tennis players 110 mph serve in her prime back inbounds.

...............and how much harder would you presume the one over the other to be?

THANKS

For the record, I took the stance that it would be MUCH MUCH harder to garnish a base hit off of a pitcher the likes of Pedro Martinez..........way harder..........like 10x harder.

That is a tough question to answer: You have more "real estate" on a tennis racket to make contact and have a chance at returning the ball inbounds than you do of making contact with a pitch and putting it in play for a hit. The velocity of the tennis serve will be higher than the pitch but the biggest assumption you have to make is with the pitch from Pedro. If it's a fastball down the middle it would be easier to time a swing and make contact with the pitch. If the pitch has movement on it it's much tougher to make the contact in the area you would have to on the bat to get a hit.

IMO the pitch (pending location) would be more difficult...if it's fastball down the middle vs serve I would give the nod to the serve being more difficult.

Just my .02

Pedro would be doing everything in his power to prevent you from getting a hit and the tennis woman would be doing everything in her power to have you not return it.

if you are a true man, easier for a hit, but if you have a girly side to you, sure go ahead and pick a racket

If that's the case it's pitch. Location Location Location!

Even with top spin or back spin on a serve you still have a better chance with your racket head then you do with your bat. IMO!

I suppose it would greatly depend on if you knew what pitch Pedro was going to throw....

If this middle aged man were a RH hitter, and Pedro threw a knee-buckling curveball, I doubt this fictional man would even be standing in the box anymore...I mean, if you have never faced a curveball before, you natural reaction is to bail out of the way...if it "appears" like it will hit you in the face...

A tennis serve bounces off the ground, thus losing about half of its speed...

Conclusion: Tennis -300, Pedro +260.

My assumption is that PEDRO is doing everything in his power to strike you out.

I agree exactly with what your saying.

However my line is differnt.............

TENNIS -1800 PEDRO +1600

Ok, I'm going with the tennis server & here's why. If, in a year, Sharapova is blasting the serves on the lines

A. I'm getting too out of shape to chase down a ball
B. I'm not focusing on the ball.

Mind you, that B could hold true for guys like Ken on the diamond, but at least you can waive the bat around and hope for contact.

1000X times easier to get a tennis return back from a top lady.

2 reasons. that 110+ mph nonsense is a fake speed. that at best is the speed of the ball off the racquet, or the speedof the racquet moving at impact. it starts slowing right away and really slows down (almost 40% of its speed) after it bounces in the service court.

you need to guess which side but you have a good shot at making contact and then its really racket angle if it goes in or not.

PEdro? you have to be kidding me. That would be very very hard for the average middle aged man to hit.

Give me Tennis for 180K to win 10K.

Line should be at least -4000.

Thanks!

I originally stated at the bar that it would be 30x harder to hit PEDRO..........which I guess would be -3000.
