I have money sitting in cash in a brokerage and it's paying 1.1% tax free - and they are charging me 0.005% on my account - I want the cash out and in a bank where I can access it but it pays a real rate - so, what banks and what rates are reasonable? thanks

These guys are pretty good:

https://www.everbank.com/

Everything's done on the internet so they save a lot of admin. charges. Their policy is to be in the top 5% for interest rates.

I've had an account there for about a year and I'm happy with them.

I don't think you can get a cashier's check in 2 hours, but you can do wires over the internet to any place in the world. You can also do ATM withdrawals with them picking up the fees.

If you need lots of cashier's checks then I'm not sure this is the right place for you.

Only other place I've seen such high interest rates is Capital One, but there it's only the savings accounts which limits the number of withdrawals per month. You will also have the same issue with cashier's checks. Everbank gives higher rates on chequing accts than any place I've seen.

Give and take I guess. If you need a place with lots of branches then you probably have to sacrifice on the rate.

Whoops, used the Canadian spelling by accident ... it's checking not chequing...it's a US bank not a Cdn. bank.
