Fielders choice is when a runner is on and the fielder chooses to get the lead runner out, so the batter makes it to first


Fielder Indifference is what I stated above

Basically, they could care less about that run...they are concerned with the batter!!!

Jesse, in the game you mentioned, the Cubs were down 2 runs in the 9th. They got a baserunner on base, but in the larger picture for the game, 1 run is meaningless since the Cubs need 2 to tie.

In that situation, the team in the field, Milk, will simply concede the stolen base to the runner and will not make an attempt to throw him out. That's called "indifference". His advancing from 1st to 2nd is insignificant as only a 2 run homer will change the game.

Fielder's choice is a decision made by a fielder on a batted ball. The fielder chooses which base he will make a play at, happens when runners are on and the fielder can choose to make a play at more than one base.

Just an added tidbit, the runner does NOT get credited with a stolen base on defensive indifference.
