What have we learned in the first half of the season?

What have we learned that will help us in the 2nd half...

Just give me everything that you can think of... Players, teams, MGR, Umps.. Everything you've learned from the first half.

Never, ever bet the Miami Marlins for a full game ML. Heath Bell is a fat, steaming pile of shit. Ditto for the rest of their pen.

  • NYY have a great line up again and if they stay healthy, they should be in the world series and likely win it again.
  • Moneyball is alive in Oakland. How they are .500 at the break is unbelievable.
  • AL east is the best division in the majors
  • Mets are better than anyone though they would be this year
  • Biggest disappointment - The Phillies
  • Biggest surprise(s) - Nationals + Pirates

Angel Hernandez's strike zone is still huge!

If you're betting the over in a game, make sure he is not behind the plate.

0/U = 5-11

Average 7.24 runs per game

2 things for the second half. The Yankees will just keep winning and Houston Astros will be the worst team in baseball. Look at there next two months and if they move Lowrie, Wandy, and Myers, this team will be Triple A again.

If betting against the Indians play the RL...35 of their 39 losses have been by more than 1 run. Orioles and Rockies also enjoy getting blasted when they lose.

Havent learned this over the season, but the years. People who enter the homerun derby and do well struggle hardcore the next 2 weeks avg 10 games. Look for Jose, Prince, and maybe Trumbo to have low numbers coming up. Might mean something in the all star game. Have to do more research.

Atlanta learned never give A Rod a ball to hit with base loaded in the bottom of the eighth. On a positive note however, Atlanta learned Jurrjens could come back and be effective and Jason Heyward loves the month of June.

also the pirates were strong out of the gate last year after the all star break, so look for a repeat then maybe they fall off track again? just like atl was up 10 games and somehow didnt make th fucking playoffs last year. They started this year 0-5 i believe so teams tend to trend like that.

I agree with loomis that the Cubs could be a team to back in certain spots this 2nd half. Team has played much better lately. If they had just a little better pitching, this team would be hard to beat.
I look for them to surprise a little in the 2nd half..

I agree with corn nuts. Astros will probably be the worst team in baseball the 2nd half, their lineup is putrid right now and their pitching could be REALLY bad once we get past 100 or so games played. Wandy will be the only semi reliable starter, Happ is up and down and the other guys will be pitching more major league innings than they are used too.. I look for the Astros to fade away and fast. They will have a run where they lost 17 out of 20 or something like that and I hopefully will be able to cash off that.

I think the Twins will be a team I'm looking to back.. They have some good and bad pitching going right now but I like their lineup and think overall they aren't as bad as their record suggests. A good team to back when heavy dogs on the road vs a not so great pitcher.

What scares me about the Twins is that they are going to trade pieces to this line up. Span, Willingham, and Morneau all could be sent away. Span and Willingham will no doubt be traded for minor league pitching. There is nothing down there and wouldn't doubt if Liriano, Capps, and Perkins are dealt for younger pitching. Terry Ryan wants to rebuild this team and he knows from his previous tenure that pitching and defense is the key and right now they don't have either. The more I have been looking at this thread the more I like the Angels. Weaver and Wilson are studs, Haren and Santana haven't pitched well thus far. This team offensively could just explode the rest of the way out. Trout is going to win the MVP at 20, YES he is that good. Also, they have P. Bourjols that they can use as a trade piece to get another bat or bullpen help.
