He is the fool for coming in and insisting he would make them that sort of offense. Its not just the players he has, but the players in the areas the Huskers recruit from. Midwestern schools are usually running the ball. To get the type of offense Callahan wants, they have to go out and recruit from CA and FL, something they haven't done too well in the past for obvious reasons. My high school quarterback, the state leader in passing yards in California, got talked into going to Lincoln by Osborne, then got sat out of most of the drills as the Huskers just kept the same offense. Sort of like Troy Aikman in Norman. He ended up getting in trouble and getting kicked off the team after being relegated to 4th stringer. This for a guy that got offers from both Miami and Notre Dame when those two schools were at the top of the polls.
These guys can try all they want to change, but its not going to happen IMO. They should accept the limitations of location and get on with it. If Callahan can't accept that he should indeed be shown the door.
