In 2009 the H1N1 virus was detected in California, testing was started and containment attempted. Halfway through that pandemic the testing was halted. 60 million Americans were estimated as infected. Killed 12,000-18,000 Americans in the younger age groups. If you Google it you will find college football was greatly affected by this virus. Life went on.
Now we have COVID, a much deadlier virus, especially to the older groups. My findings are 2 out of 100 infected die. The huge majority are over 60 years of age or underlying health issues. Of ALL the college football positive tests we have seen how many have spent time in a hospital?? If even ONE does go to the hospital you can bet your ass the media will cover it like flies on a shithouse door. Have not seen it happen yet. Not one. Here in Michigan the last time I looked (today) we had 6422 deaths. Ages 0-29 have ZERO deaths. Certainly we do not want to spread the virus but all this hoopla that we will kill football players seems a bit far fetched. If they don't play football what are their chances of contracting the virus vs playing football? Do you think college age folks are locking down, social distancing?
What I am seeing is teams that don't do well on the field seem to have the most trouble controlling the spread. Now Clemson players tested positive upon arrival for workouts, but Michigan State had two members of staff test positive and then 17 players. Sounds like bad protocol to me. Rutgers just had a bunch who tested positive, they were all at a party!
I am losing hope for a season, more due to politics than science. And the behavior of the avg college age student.
