Most likely just a sprain. The pop is normal for sprains with a lot of swelling.

It should start getting pretty discolored in the next couple of days.

Stick your foot in a bucket full of ice water for 20 minutes a time a couple of times a day and you will be good to go in no time.

You are taking medical advice from wildcat who is probably as far from a doctor as can be. My advice, go see a doctor.

Couple of things.

1) get it checked. Get it X-Rayed to make sure. I broke my ankle for the 1st time (done it 3 times), playing hoops. Kept playing on it. It was the size of a softball, finally the next day, I went got it looked at and it was broken.

2) Also, allow yourself the proper amount of time to heal. I cut the cast of 2 weeks early (dumbest thing ever), I wake up every morning and we have wood floors and my wife knows I am wake by when she hears my ankle crack. I can not stress the importance of allowing it to heal properly.

ok thanks btd, so you kept playing on it right after you broke it?

Yes, I paid $5 (in 1993) to get into rec center I wasn't a member at. I have done stupid crap like that before. I tore ligaments in my knee and played for another week or so on it. Finally the Dr. said, if you don't stop you are going to need surgery and will be out for more than 12 weeks you are going to be out now.

I did a lot stupid things when I was younger. I now pay the prices for these injuries. Fractured my tailbone, didn't stay in bed as long as should have and can't sit still for more than an hour now (in a plane or at the movies).

Just dumb crap. I always tell anyone now, allow your injuries to fully heal before getting back to it.

Ive been coaching HS football for 12 years. See this happen all the time. Not to mention spraining my own ankle a few times.

Im not a doctor, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night....
