Clippers get Lance Stephenson.
Hornets get Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes.
Clippers obviously want to dump Hawes' contract but is paying a ton of money for Lance the answer? Barnes only has a few good years left and Lance is only 24. I can't imagine the Clippers expect to keep Lance longterm. There's no way they can afford CP3, Blake, DeAndre, and Lance really is there? They just said they are going to offer DeAndre a max contract.
Barnes is a stronger defender than Stephenson but Lance is solid on that side of the ball. Lance has more scoring potential. Both have some personality issues that teams don't like.
Really I'm not a big fan of it for the Clippers. Stephenson didn't fit with the Hornets at all and they had to do something to get rid of his contract so I guess kudos on that. Will they keep Barnes or release him? He's too old to really be a part of their rebuilding process I assume. If he goes back to L.A. after his release I'll rethink this trade 100%. With Big Al always hurt I guess Hawes could have some value to them. The swap of Hawes for Lance gives the Bobcats like 4 mil more a year to work with.
Why are the Clippers doing this though? Lance is probably an upgrade over Barnes but is he going to last longer than a year or 2 before they have to move him? Barnes was only going to make 3 mil next season. Stephenson gets 9 for 2 more years. Hmm.
Any thoughts?
