Seriously now...
EXCEL or any spreadsheet is a sensible method to track data in this business.
Someone above smartly noted that "online forum posting" at a reliable, stable and (most important) unalterable site like the RxForum is very helpful as well.
Such posting can be done in general terms ("Units"...not "dollars") to avoid undue self-incrimination.
What he said.
I know and understand how some people prefer the pen & paper method because it can be so convenient to do so at times. I think it's mainly good if you are scribbling some bets hurriedly or so forth, but I faithfully stick to Excel for the long-term thing. How else can I see whether I'm up for the month (definitely not for September as I already know!) or what kind of bets are killing me or what kind of bets that I'm doing so well?
It feels good to go back into my spreadsheet files and can dig up any data that I'm looking for at the time. For instance, I was wondering what my winning percentage was recently in my MM thread and pulled the data from a file from fall 2006-spring 2007 & saw that I was at 52.9% winning percentage on those bets in that file (only).
How can somebody get that information from pen & paper though? I don't mind one of those websites online where they do the tracking for me & making it easy for me to "feed my picks in"-- I did experiment with one at beginning of baseball season & liked it. Tho, I quit feeding because I just had to feed into my files, so it meant DOUBLE feeding & that's too much for me so I stopped there. I can't recall the website since I never put it into my favorites before changing computers. Oh well. But if somebody is interested in that kind of website, I can do a quick research on where/what site it was. Nobody has mentioned this site yet or it would have rang a bell in my mind.
