BALL FOUR by Jim Bouton, THE BOYS OF SUMMER, and A SEASON ON THE BRINK immediately come to my mind.

One of my all-time favorites was THE GLORY OF THEIR TIME, which went into great detail about many old-time ballplayers.

If you enjoy reading about inner city hoops in New York, would highly recommend The City Game as an enjoyable read.

I read "They Call Me Assassin" by Jack Tatum almost 20 years ago.

I loved it

What sticks with me most from the book is how crooked the Colleges were back then/now when it comes to getting recruits to sign. Money, cars, women sent to :hump: the hell out of them. Samre stuff that goes on now, but more in the open then.
I had no idea that stuff went on like when I read it in High School

Another book in the same vein was the one about Lance Rentzle and the Oklahoma Sooners - I can't remember the name of the book however. The part about the Grape race was funny as hell, basically all of the Freshmen had a grape stuck up there ass and had to crawl backwards on their feet and hands. The last guy too finish the 100 yards had to eat all of the grapes.
