I Don't collect old outboard motors, not stock market profits, not heirloom tomato seeds, not another redemption song, not another yellow ribbon or a worthless insurance policy, not crocus bulbs, not tomorrow's cold pizza, not a Norman Rockwell Sunday afternoon, and not a Briggs and Stratton carburetor. I collect spectrophotometers. I am awed by the optics, engineering, electronics, and the analytical and quantitative information they gather in a split second. I have a Beckman, an old Turner, a Shimadzu, and a Perkin Elmer but the most important is a little Gilson number (model 116) that can read out sports futures with the right flow cell pressure.
