This and crude oil and oil products. And many items that are dangerous to produce. The lack of regulations make them cheap to produce there.
No I don't think that's true. A large portion of legal and illegal immigrants are from Central America who go through Mexico. Billions in remittances are sent there every year. Not sure what you mean about expats, bank accounts under the same name wouldn't be taxed probably. Offshore gambling not as much p2p anymore, and I'm sure they would have no problem begrudgingly pick up the tab anyway
My life experience says it is. Because of my fluency in Spanish I worked alongside Hispanics for a decade within the US in both the midwest and the Southeast. Of Central Americans, I never once met anybody that wasnt either from Guatemala, El Salvador or Honduras. Thats the CA Triangle....and we sought out them over Mexicans because the work ethic was better with less after hours drama. Its easily 4-1 Mexicans, not a "large portion" the other way.
The gaming industry still moves tons of WU/MG money. There are more credit shops than traditional books that dont process credit cards. I pick up money that way plenty and I almost always run into somebody else doing the same....but hey, Costa Rica is only an important offshore gaming country.

Maybe you're right I just know semi recently the demographics have drastically changed towards more from the Central American countries you mentioned. The numbers by remittance dollars suggest central and even south america (columbia) aren't far behind if not at least equal to Mexican remittance these days.
I'm just not that worried about the offshore industry aspect. That avenue is used less and less and most serious players have long been blacklisted anyway. As far as picking up in the USA, there would be no tax on that.
